Folks... I am retrofitting the B2410 with a Racor fuel/water separator/30 micron filter... I send pics as soon as I am finished and explain why I went the Racor route.
As part of the retro I siphoned the fuel from the fuel tank through a cotton cloth. It did not collect any particulate solids. But, there always seems to be a proverbial but, the color of the fuel was a black cherry red... not the regular red dye look of fresh fuel.
Here is the deal... the fuel does not give me any issues so does the dark fuel a thing a cause for concern. Me and my neighbor top off the 200 gallon tank each year. So I asked myself a question, "Myself... who has a fleet of backup generators that are meticulously maintained ... I know for a fact they do not change out their fuel"> I wonder what they do?
I went to our local telephone company where I spoke to the company's field service manager. The company has a diesel powered genset at all their sub switch stations... more than 167 units. I asked how they managed their fuel... his answer as keep the tanks topped off. He said they have units that have not been called into emergency service in years. All units do autostart for 10 minutes each week... he said they have had little to no fuel issues. But... he did say one thing... all their units have a Racor water separator... condensation inspection is performed once a month.
Any thoughts on the fuel color change?
