Over the past five years a lot of grease has accumulated and collected dirt and twigs around the pivot points. It’s a mess and I cleaned some of it of with WD-40 today. I guess I could hit it with a power washer but is there a better a to get this cleaned up?

I'm a grease freak, always have been...

Start out with disposable shop towels (the paper blue ones) and wipe all the goober gobs off and toss the towels.

Then soak the loader down with Purple Power (available at TSC), I use a pump sprayer. Let it sit for a half our or so and pressure wash it good. Just be sure to regrease it afterwards.

I do my tractor motors and radiators too (remove the screens first).

Old rags work best. I wouldnt put degreaser or detergents or any kind of solvents anywhere near the parts needing grease. Pressure washers just force water into spots you dont want or need it to go.

I'd stay away from ANY detergent. It can penetrate and corrode pins/pivots.
The WD40 or WD 40 Degreaser either are good but use a stiff bristle-brush and it should clean right up. Works for me.

ZEP purple cleaner! ;)
Wolfman, I swear by the ZEP Orange Cleaner and Degreaser. I go through gallons of it on the dump trucks and everything. Works good to get the tar and asphalt off the trucks without hurting the paint.
It also kept my white Superduty pure white all the time. It really made it shine even after all out salt covered winter highways.

I have never seen it in purple. Does the purple work better than the orange?

I think so, I degrease all my jobs and clothes with it.
It will harm some paints and whiten some aluminum, but besides that it really removes grease and oil!

OK, thanks. I'll have to look for it and try some for the really greasy stuff.

But like I say, the orange works really good on paint and clothes too. No discoloration.

My white pickup used to get those little orange rust specs all over the side that come off your brake rotors and that orange Zep would clean it right off.

Been using Purple Power and my pressure washer on my tractors for years with no issue, I just make sure they are re-greased right away. Now on the hay tools, I just blow them off with compressed air and call it good, except the disc mowers. Those get purple power and power washed under the shrouds, They get really loaded with chopped green hay. I get all the heavy stuff by hand and then spritz.

Round and square balers and rakes, just compressed air. Same with tedders.

How I do it, your mileage may be different....

Good timing for this post, it's time I got at mine. It actually still has all the undercoating still on it from winter and lot's of grease to remove at the pivot points.
