Mowing my back lawn on a beautiful sunny spring day. A relaxing chore I look forward to.
Then it happened. I decided to mow close to a very large bush having very tall grass growing around it. While backing up I did not notice a thick branch was between me and the loader joystick. In 5" of travel I managed to bend the joystick forward way past its natural position. It is now toast.
This is a nightmarish struggle as to where to turn to get my bx 2230 back up and running. I rely on the front end loader for almost everything around my home. Mowing, and wood hauling etc.
Can I repair it myself? Should I tow it to Messicks? I'll have to mortgage my house.
I took the cover off to look at the disaster beneath.....a loader control valve looks like something you don't take apart, you replace.
Can anyone give me some direction as to how to go about this? or how difficult it is to replace? I've done all maintenance on this 16 year old and have replaced various parts, but nothing with hydraulics.
Please someone tell me its not so bad...

If you're replacing, it shouldn't be so bad. The worst part will be setting the gimble so that the joystick doesn't have something open with it's in the neutral position. That's usually not really hard to do. Sorta surprised that it bent, but perhaps I don't have the best reference to compare to your BX. I have an LX, and the valve is under my right butt cheek. The stick is nearly 3 feet long, and at least 5/8" in diameter. Gunna take a big branch to bend that. Photos would probably help get you some good technical direction. If the valve isn't hurt, you might be able to limit your repair parts. Normally, hurt valves puke fluid everywhere..

It's probably just a bent part or two, here is the parts breakdown pic for the control levers. Pick which yours is and go from there.
I seriously doubt you damaged the control valve itself. Most likely just a bent linkage or two.

Thanks for the advice and the diagrams! I'll send some pics after work today. Life sure is a learning experience.

In the second pic it shows the clean silver area on the( cylinder) how far out they came.
Third pic just gives an overall view of things as they are now.
I don't know where to start.
The first pic shows a side view after I had yanked it back home. It was 3/4" forward of where it is now.

I don't see any bent hardware. I'm thinking the problems are inside the valve itself

what is your issue? No movement? Could it be as simple as the lock out got moved? It appears its in the locked position compared to mine but I don’t have a bx.

It's not in the locked position, read my post
I have read the whole thread and you have given no indication of what you actual problem is. What is the tractor doing that makes you think the loader valve is “toast”?

More information will get more/better responses.

It's not in the locked position, The joystick was jamed forward by a branch while backing up. I am left with no hydraulics and frozen joystick.
This is a pic of the valve assembly after I pulled it back into position.

I don't see any visible bent parts....could the problem it be in the valve housing? Look at the closeup of the two cylinder things, you can see how far they were forced out.

are you talking about this? Mine looks the same way, its from the dust seals pushing all the dirt away as you operate the joy stick.

after re reading now Im questioning if the tractor even moves since you “yanked it home”. If the tractor doesn’t move at all I don’t believe anything with the loader would cause that.

not trying to be a smart ass, but still not really describing the issue with the tractor. Wondering if your focusing on the wrong thing.

From reading this thread, I know you were mowing and the loader joystick got involved with a limb and forced the joystick to the front of the tractor.
I don’t think you have posted a picture of the joystick but say you have moved it 3/4 of an inch toward the rear or yanked the tractor or joystick “home”.

What happened to the loader during the event?
Did you drag the tractor home or pull the joystick back into home position?
Does the tractor run and move on its own power?
If you move the joystick with out the tractor running will it move?
What about if the tractor is running what happens when the joystick is moved?
Does the 3PH move up if tractor is running and you move it’s lever up?
Does the 3PH move down when lever is moved down?

What happens if you disconnect the pins to the loader valves ( silver cylinders in your pictures)? Can they move up or down? Honestly I don’t know if they should move so you may want for advice on that?

What hydraulics is “frozen” and what do you mean is not moving (assuming frozen means solid and won’t move)?

So, your post got me thinking. When I first came back from the field and got the tractor back into the shed I took off the plastic assembly cover. The bracket that holds the lock handle was unscrewed from removing the cover and was left hanging there. I reassembled it, and with the cover off I wasn't aware of its true position. You have to realize this whole assembly was on a real tilt. . It looked bad.
After reading your post I went to the shed and checked.
Yes, it was. It was locked. Aside from my embarrassment
I am so relieved.
When this happened, the lock handle was also forced into the locked position.

Just to clear up a couple of things. I was mowing with out the loader on. After this happened, the mid mount mower
was unable to move up and was riding on its wheels, so I thought hydraulics were gone. I haven't looked into that issue yet but it's rather coincidental.

In regards to the mmm not moving, I believe the bx lifts off the 3 pt for the mmm?

I think thats the power beyond circuit from the loader that powers the 3 pt, is that hose cut right there?

I could be wrong.
