Diesel is combustible but not flammable per NFPA definitions, despite flammable and combustible being synonymous in non-technical speech. Gasoline is flammable per NFPA definitions. So your fuel tank is rated for diesel but not gasoline.

The practical issue for fuel storage is gasoline’s flash point (the temperature at which it off gasses) is low enough the vapors are a routine issue. Diesel’s flash point is high enough the vapors aren’t a practical issue.
