Hi All,
I have a toro mower with a D1105 engine was running on 2 cyl, injector pump seemed to be working so put 3 new injectors in not knowing the injector timming was done by spacers.
I just put the 3 randomly back in now it runs on all 3 but billows black smoke.

How does one set the timing? or do i just keep swapping them around until it comes good.

Cheers,
Nick

If you had the injection pump off and then put it back on, and removed the spacers while doing so, just put the same spacers back in. The sequence of the spacers make no difference. The important dimension is the total thickness of the original spacers. Adding any sealant would be like adding spacers, DO NOT use sealant.

Hi mate,
But the washers under the injectors do the timing? I didn’t realise they were different.
Cheers
No, the washer under the injectors do not set timing, they just seal the injector to the head.

If you did not mess with the injection pump, then you did not change the timing.

If you got injectors off of a source like ebay or such they are either not the right injectors for that motor or likely bad and not popping at the proper pressure, hence the reason for the black smoke.

Pull them and take them to a diesel shop and have them pop tested.
Take your old ones with you too.

Return the ones you got off ebay as defective, seller must pay return shipping too!

Go to Oregon Fuel Injection and order a set from them, they will be 100% from the start!
And use the new sealing washer that they come with, not your old ones.
