They see their reflection and think it's an enemy, then proceed to put the smackdown on him.

Breeding season right now. Male Cardinals are known for being highly territorial and aggressive defenders.

They attack their own reflection in car mirrors and windows quite often around here.

He was 60 or 70 yards from the house but bears don't bother people for the most part, very shy animal. They have green bin day figured out and that's what they're after around the hood. We have 2 freezers with lots of room to keep the recycling in until pick up day, and as much as I would love a good bear roast, them getting into the recycling I won't eat them so we just learn to share the land. Sorry skeets, didn't mean to hijack your thread

Sorry but that is way too close for comfort. Happened to have tv on when I saw bearbait's post featuring a guy who crossed paths with a grizzly while out working. He wasn't pretty after the encounter.

LOL! I have two cowbirds fighting themselves in the car mirrors and crapping all over.
When I was a kid, we had them doing the same thing. They favored the truck mirrors. I assume because they were the biggest ones. Dad put grocery bags on them (the mirrors. Not the birds 😉)

My truck doors have cardinal crap all over them right now and I even fold the mirrors in when I get out of the truck. If the mirrors are out they attack the mirrors. If they are in they attack the windows. Little red aholes won’t let up.
