I just had to adjust the clutch on my 3901. Its only 2 1/2 years old and has just over 300 hours on it. Do they have a history of wearing out quickly? I only ask since I've put a lot more hours on my other tractors before adjusting their clutches and if Kubota wears out faster then I need to start putting money away for when I have to replace it.

Clutch wear time totally depends on what your doing with it, and how you operate it.

Another option is that it was not in proper adjustment from the start.

I don't think Kubota tractors have greater wear than any other manufacture. ;)

Armydoc78, probably be a long time before you need a clutch! An adjustment just means it's got some wear on it...could take many more adjustments before it actually slips.

If you have any interest in replacing your clutch when the times comes, your "set aside" money can almost be eliminated.

It's a pretty simple process when broken down step by step. Might be intimidating the first time, but with a little coaching you can whip it out. Take it apart one day, get parts, put it back together another day. Probably cost $200/$250 in parts.

I don't know about his tractor, but I recently replaced my 2 stage clutch in a smaller B2150 and it cost me nearly over $700 in parts alone. Admittedly the work to do it was more grunt than difficult, but parts cost on some of these tractors is a killer. It's also a pill to adjust.

You're correct BadDog. Two stage clutch is more expensive. First one I did, I took the clutch to a rebuilder and had them do their work. They had it ready to install. Only one simple adjustment for the second stage and it worked fine. And the cost was real reasonable.

How did you know the clutch needed adjustment? Also did you just adjust the peddle assembly or the clutch itself?

Yeah, I tried to get mine rebuilt. But in the end they claimed they couldn't rebuilt that type of clutch, so I had to pony up and wait for a shipment.
