I purchased a used hla sb1000 snow plow with hydraulic angle. My third function has two male 1/4" quick couplings. The snow plow has 1/2" male quick couplings on 3/8 hoses. I purchased 2 kubota 1/4" style female quick couplings and went to my local hardware store thinking I would easily find a reducer but there was nothing there that would work. I need to go from the 1/2" male thread to the 1/4" female thread. so my question is can I use plumbing pipe or is there special fittings to handle the pressure? will brass or galvanized reducer with a 1/4" threaded nipple be ok if I can find it. ? Is there a reducer available that would make this simpler? Just to make sure the male quick coupling is .800 " across the top which I think makes it a 1/2" coupling. I would assume that also means 1/2" thead. I know nothing about hydraulics. thank you

Maybe?? I know of at least 2 different grades of brass NPT fittings; low ~150psi and high ~3000psi applications. Without knowing working pressure for those pictured, safe answer is to use steel hydraulic fittings for your application. Surplus Center, Discount Hydraulic Hose or local hydraulics shop should have them for $3-4 each. HTH

Without knowing what thread you have on the hoses and QD's it's impossible for us to answer, but you want steel fittings for hydraulics, not brass or galvanized ones as they aren't rated for the pressure.

That won't work reliably on a 2000 PSI hydraulic circuit - get steel hydraulic fittings. I had trouble following your desription of what you need to adapt. Here is an adapter to reduce 1/2" male to 1/4" male as in your picture. If that is not what you want to do please explain what you do want to do.

I am not sure. I am making an assumption that QC all use npt threads that is probably incorrect. is there a way to determine the thread type? I purchased Kubota replacement female QC as I am assuming the third function is using a kubota male QC both should be Pioneer style ag couplings

is there a standard thead used in hydraulics?

There are dozens of "standard" threads used in hydraulics. If your hoses have rigid male ends and screw directly into the couplers they are almost surely NPT. I would also be surprised if your new Kubota couplers where anything else.

thank you they do screw directly into the couplers from the hose.

Thank you I am in Canada the shipping is generally expensive from the states.
Had I known you were in Canada I would not have been as fast on the trigger with the NPT comment. However I looked and I think you are good to go. It appears NPT is also the prevailing thread type in Canada.

Thank you Dan I have the QC and ordered the reducer so I will know for sure on Thursday. My last tractor had a wide array of black pipe and galvanized elbow and other pipe fittings but It was an old farmall and those terrible connections were probably why after 20 minutes the tank would overflow from the foam.

I am familiar with those old loaders. They came from the factory with Sch 40 iron pipe plumbing and I don't think it ever killed anyone. Just not good practice these days.

Should have purchased your quick connects from Amazon.CA ... Most likely a lot less expensive than from Kubota Canada.

Thank you for the help its turns out all the threads were npt. and everything fit together. I have not tried the snowplow yet but the fittings all screwed together I will see if the quick connects work together.

next time... consider Princess Auto for hydraulics......
been dealing with them since 1976ish...GREAT customer service !
Rebuilt the dump trailer using their parts , ZERO problems and ALL the right parts the FIRST time.....

Glad to hear that you got it all screwed up. I mean put together... :)
