Yea us too. Most likely tomorrow also, it's getting old fast. It smells like the worst camp fire you ever were around.

It is bad indeed. You can smell fire here. I thought it was our burn pit at first. Many of our clients have reduced the OA volume in their buildings.

One of the fires is currently about 25min by ATV trails from my house. However the wind is currently cooperating. The air is heavy, and seems to go up and down in waves. My German shorthair pointer sure isnt liking it. i think all the "campfire" smell is messing with her nose. Last time I checked the fire was mostly contained.

We got lucky here in the east, mother nature dumped a lot of water on us over the last 3 or 4 days, sadly not before many lost their homes. Hoping that mother nature jumps in to help out the rest of you, be safe folks.

It's here in the Shenandoah Valley of VA, also. How does this figure into our climate concerns?

It doesn't figure in my 'climate concerns'..

All of these wildfires could have been easily controlled to minimal loss of trees and wildlife and zero loss of property and human lives according to a 'plan' sent to both Federal and provincial governments 3-4 decades ago.

Does anyone have an educated guess as to how one's elevation (I'm right at 1K feet, western MA) figures in to the degree of affect with regards to the smoke? When I look at pics of NYC it seems that the lower elevations may be getting whacked harder than I am, which is somewhat difficult to comprehend. Does the smoke 'settle' or rise or just ride prevailing winds? How about coastal regions compared to inland areas? TIA

Take the right pressure system with good winds and the Hudson Valley makes for a nice alley from the Adirondacks down to NYC.

well Hamilton,On is quite 'smokey' but I'm on top of the 'escarpment' and it's pretty clear here.
we do have a 'fire ban' as of today...

It was hazy down here yesterday and it’s a long way from Canada. Rain today knocked it down quite a bit.

It doesn't look like there is much of a trend to me. Fwiw, the current fire has to get several times larger to be the top on this list.

Instead of the administration saying it's caused by x, it might make more sense to coordinate states to send firefighters and equipment before the fire season in the NW gets going full steam. But, that would mean they'd have to solve a problem not just use it for politics. ;)

Oh, I know that some are going now, but that could have started weeks ago.

I saw a news bit last week that explained why the fires in NS are so bad. Perhaps this is common knowledge but the fires are due to tropical storm Fiona that did a lot of damage in September of last year. It took down so many trees that dried out and became kindling this year.

We typically get smoke for a few weeks up here in NW Montana. Fires in Canada, OR, WA, ID and MT all contribute. A/C systems in homes aren't as common here as they are in many other states so it's a bad situation for many who need to cool off but don't want to open windows and let the smoke in. I have central A/C and make good use of it when the smoke is bad.
