Depends on your area...

Here in Ok I started out at $55 per hour trying to use the standard $10 per foot of brushhog to a point. I have a 6" hog, figured $55 was in line... would have starved to death waiting on jobs. Modified my rates to meet conditions. If it's flat mowing of normal grasses and weeds and not rough it's $45 hr, If it's got mixed brush/tall weeds it's $50 and if it's thick brush like I mowed last weekend it's $55+ hr... Since I have gone to this model it has worked out well and I usually have a full weekend of brushhogging every weekend...

I try to get $50hr with my L3000 w/5' and $100hr - $150hr with my M9000 w/8' or 15'.

That leaves some room to vary when needed.

Most everyone in my area, charges $50/hr. The time starts when you load your equipment and ends when you unload at home. This is for a single width bush hog. The double and triple width units have charged up to $125/hr. The reason for charging in this manner is to cover the cost of your truck and trailer expenses to get to the job as well as your tractor operating expenses on the job. UPS doesn't ship for free, so why should you!

If someone needs a quote it's $50 per acre + $2.25 a mile to site. If they wish to pay by the hour it's $50 per from time I leave my home. I don't have to make a living using my tractor. I also lay wire and water lines. I have maintained to relay towers on the per acre price (3.5 acres each) three - four times a year. I set aside 60% of money made toward repair and or replacement of equipment.

I flat rate most of mine and it seems to work well. I get $45 an hour mowing residential lawns, bush hoging a field for 5 or 10 bucks more isn't going to make me any money. I aim for $100 an acre and usually get it. Now granted I run a business and there is licensing, insurance, and taxes involved so yeah I'm going to charge more then your farmer fellows.
