I have a B3300SU purchased in March 2014. I live in Southern New Jersey and on a cold snowy day, it might get down to 15 or 20 degrees. Rarely colder than 20. I keep my tractor in an unheated barn. Should I consider a block heater ?

i would - for the cost it will help the life of the tractor and will lesson the frustration of the OWNER !!!!!!!

That it's spring weather get. Honestly my opinion is if it doesn't get any colder than that, i wouldn't worry about it. Being in an unheated garage, it is still warmer than outside.

the freeze plug style for my BX was $80.00. money well spent. it only took 10 minutes to install, and most of that was looking twice, and doing it once. how much does a tractor cost? what's piece of mind knowing your helping the life of the tractor worth?

That along with changing all the fluids to synthetic will make your new workhorse last much longer.
If you find that the engine cranks more than in the summer before firing up, you should put a block heater in it.

From reading the previous post I'm thinking these modern tractors have been cheapen up to the point the owners are concerned about their tractors longevity.

I live in an area where it gets down to 0(F) once in a while, might stay in the teens for several days, but nothing extreme.

I have a 1985 B8200 I bought new without a heater. Never had a problem starting or running whenever I need it. Or a 1965 Case 730. Use it to feed hay all winter. Indirect injection. Starts, runs fine, and never had a problem with anything mechanical. I'm the second owner. 1978 Deutz 6206, same story. R40 Ditchwitch, same story. D2 Cat, same story.

This old junk iron sure is nice!

I have probably about 70 to 80 deutz motors in the area. No glow plugs or block heaters on any of them. Lowest temps I've started them at were about 5°f. Had to hook a set of cables to a couple of them. But if they have a good battery they will start right up. No block heater on my tractor. Glow plug for a minute or so and will start. Some times I'll have to hit the glow plugs a second time. Lowest temps I've started the tractor was 10°f. No issues there either unless the battery took a dump. Let it warm up for 10 to 15 minutes and away I go

I have a CAB so one thing I think about is how long before I have HOT air blowing out of my vents. Because of this I prefer a block heater though really the 3940HSTC starts in the extreme cold using the glow plugs with no problems at all.

They are cheap enough and you really cant go wrong with whatever you decide.
