I Need some advice! Sell? Fix? What's it worth ?

I torn down and rebuilt my garage this summer and the 'Bota has been sitting in the weather all season. I started it up and drove about 30 feet before i realized the fuel was still shut off.. It stalled .. and now won't start.. Feels like the front axle is still locked in 4wheel drive.

I don't really have the time or money to dump into it ( for something i rarely use). BUT I know there is a good home for this little tractor. This is the first 'Major' problem i've had with it.

So the question to all of the Kubota lovers.... What do I do with it ?? part it out ? sell it for scrap? pull the front drive shaft and see if i can get it running and sell it as a 2wheel model ?

Any suggestions on best place to sell ? Craiglist ? will dealer give me anything for it on trade in ?

Any feed back would be greatly appreciated !!

KubotaPete,

I think you should sell it so it can be redone and serve another owner for years to come. How many hours are on the tractor? Is it HST?

It would bring you more money if you had it running like a clock. You could easily get 4 or 5 thousand bucks for it in a working condition. Just something to think about.

They are pretty simple machines. Do you have a friend who is more mechanically inclined? You could pull the filter and change it, clean the tank and lines, and get it running. I doubt that you have any major issues. Just air and gunk in the fuel system. I would be doubtful that you have a 4WD issue, either, unless there is more to the story. When in 4WD and driving, sometimes things get in a bind- that is the normal physics of 4WD. Get it running first, then see if you have a drive issue. Running, it is worth much more. Even if you don't, most any savy mechanic can have it going quickly- it is worth more complete than parted, and because the 7100 isn't made anymore, it is better to see one rolling than in parts. I think you are throwing the towel in too quick. Get her going, then decide if you want to sell or not.
Oh, welcome to OTT! This is a great place because of the great people, and hopefully you will become a regular.

@hodge: Thanks for the welcome

I think it's a little more complicated... I can't get the front wheels disengaged to start it. My next step is to pull the front drive shaft and see if it'll start and i can drive it into the garage. and if that doesn't get it moving i'll put a post in the repair section to see what ya'll think..

I'm really just shooting for some feed back on what these tractors are worth on the market and what my best options are (part out, trade in, pay $1500 at dealer to get it running properly, etc.. ) Either way this deal works out I WILL still own a Kubota.. just don't know how much time/money i want to put into this 'ol beast compared to buying something new or new-to-me.

I can't get the front wheels disengaged to start it.
Maybe I missed something.... what do the front wheels have to do with starting?

@Lil Foot: That's the big question that has me considering selling.. Some how the front axle got stuck engaged and when you try to start the engine it is trying to move the tractor.. Clutch will disengage the rear wheels but no matter what i've tried i can not get the front axle 'disengaged' from the engine... if that makes any sense

OK, now I understand the "selling" part, but I'm baffled by the cause. Weird.

Do you have both the clutch pedal and break pedal in when you try to start? It sounds to me like the clutch is completely shot and needs to be replaced.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but their is no way the clutch can disconnect the rear wheels and not disconnect the front wheels. The power comes from the engine, through the clutch, through the transmission, then the front axle is either engaged when in 4x4 or disengaged when in 2x4. Have you tried starting the tractor with the transmission in neutral? It sounds like the clutch is stuck to the pressure plate or flywheel. Putting the transmission should allow the engine to start.

I agree. The only way the condition that you describe could happen is if the clutch is frozen together, the transmission is in gear and 4WD is engaged, and if there is an issue in the rear final drive, where power is going to the front wheels, but not the back. It could happen, which would also mean that besides a stuck clutch, something expensive is wrong.

I agree, that is why I'm baffled.
