B7100 starting

I have a B7100 when starting cold using the glow plugs it will start and run for around 10 seconds plowing black smoke and dies it will start and run on the fourth or fifth time it is a rebuilt engine don’t know by who though

How long do you heat the plugs for?
Does it run fine otherwise?

You sure glow plugs are working?

Take top connections off - test on OHMs .....should be close to one ohm

Black smoke is fuel injectors or timing issue.

Follow the WSM and check the spill timing.
