Ican do that but i checked when i tore it down and looked further after the fact... wher can i find info on this spill test ? or is that a dealer thing ?

Do you have the WSM (AKA service manual)?
If not ask for a copy, I have it.

It is another word for injection pump timing.

You can do this yourself. Just strive for the spec'd timing value.

I have noted that if i preheat for 10 to 15 seconds prior to engaging the starter she starts right up like before.... never had to do that before so i think something is still out of skew..
Preheating the glow plugs before starting is normal procedure for a B7100. Unless it's a warm summer day and the engine is warm, I always preheat.

it's just something i have never had to do living in FLA.
Not to be a smart azz….but just because you’ve never done it…. does that logic apply to an engine you’ve not often operated that doesn’t start?

My (different model) Kubota tractor has always started on the first revolution of the starter even tho’ …”I’ve never used the Glow Plugs” during start.

HA! Imagine my surprise when troubleshooting a bad starter relay that when the key is turned to “start” there was a HUGE battery-drain/draw even tho’ the starter was not activated by the starter relay. :oops:

THAT…is how and when I learned (from others here at OTT) that the GPs are automatically activated ANYtime the key is turned to “start”…. regardless whether or not “i’d ever used the glow plugs.” 🤣

it's just something i have never had to do living in FLA.
From the B7100 Operator's Manual:

(7) Fully step on the clutch pedal and turn the key
switch left, waiting for the glow plug lamp to turn red.
Though the glow plug lamp turns red in about 10 seconds,
it takes at least 20 seconds until the preheating
coil in the combustion chamber is fully heated. The
lower the ambient temperature, the longer the preheating
time . For the necessary preheating time, refer
to the table below:

Temperature Preheating Time
Over 0°C (32°F) 20 to 30 sec .
0 to _ 5° C (32 to 23°F) 20 to 60 sec.

I also learned it preheated when in the start position here during this project... never knew that. just different than before is all...

The start position (at which time the starter is cranking the engine over) also applies power to the glow plugs, but that's not really PRE-heating -- that's just keeping them warm while it cranks. Better to pre-heat by turning the key counter-clockwise for 20 seconds first than to crank the engine for 20 seconds to pre-heat. The starter will last longer and all 3 cylinders will light off together instead of one or two lighting off while the other(s) spew white "smoke" (unburned diesel) out the exhaust pipe.

BTW: I don't use a stopwatch -- I count clicks of the hour meter. Warm day, cold start: 5 or 6 clicks. Cool day -- 8 or 10 clicks. Sub-zero weather, 16 clicks. If all 3 cylinders don't light up right away or the engine stumbles, turn it back to the preheat position (with the engine running) until it smooths out.

Virtually identical to how I start mine.

May work…IF …you have an electric hour-meter…and good ears. 👂

Fortunately I don't have to count clicks just after sitting on a running tractor for an hour :ROFLMAO:

I replaced my battery on my HST B7100 with a good battery with higher cold cranking amps compared to the cheaper ones I had been buying. I just came in from plowing driveways and the temp was 9 F. The tractor starts much easier in these cold temps than ever before. I assuming it has to do with the faster cranking speed.
