Looking at charts like this: https://clearwaterhydraulics.com/hose-size-vs-gpm-ezp-24.html -06 is fine for 3 gpm, but getting iffy for 6 gpm. But the block is a local restriction -- in and of itself, it forms a small part of the entire system. The restriction in any elbows is several times greater.

But my thought was actually more related to fitting and hose sizes. If the hydraulic block port is the same size as the spool valve port, it simplifies the need for adapters.

OTOH, I like the idea of using 0-ring fittings over pipe threads. But the tooling costs are higher. If you already have the reamer and tap set for -08 then it's not an issue. If you only have -06 size available, then it adds to the cost for a small batch of orders. I threaded mine 3/4" pipe for two reasons: 1. adapters for a range of smaller hose sizes are readily available and 2. I already have 3/4" pipe taps. ;-)
Charts like that are what cause oversizing. That is hose size which is based on fluid velocity AND its ultra conservative. My new L3901 with LA525 loader and a 6.3 GPM system uses -06 hoses straight from the factory. The grapple I purchased arrived with very high end Parker -04 hose and -08 Stucchi flat face couplers,- ARRRRRG!!!!

I despise NPT threads and I have -04, -05, -06, -08, -10, and -12 port cutters so I can do just about anything in the CUT and small utility tractor hydraulics world. You need port adapters regardless of size or type so SAE-06 to SAE-08 is trivial. The downside is you will have obstructions and have to resort to long drop elbows. Personally I prefer -06 end fittings on -06 hose because it is a lot more compact than -08 and has exactly the same size stem. I also make hoses and I can put a wide variety of ends and sizes on them. Iif you want to get fancy something like this on the block end would be compact, easy to install, and look very "professional". Same cost as a short drop female JIC swivel and a port adapter.

I really like that fitting.. what is the term for it?

Totally agree about oversized hoses/fittings just making things harder and uglier.

And tapping this thing for 3/4 npt.. typo?

And tapping this thing for 3/4 npt.. typo? That thread is wider than the whole block is tall. Might be possible on the 'top' if you made the block thick enough, but it's like using a 3/4" drive ratchet for a 1/4" ratchet job. On a small tractor I think the only place you might find that is a barb for a 1" id suction hose on an old hydraulic pump.
The designation for that male SAE hose swivel end fitting is MBX90. A SAE-06 fitting for -06 hose is roughly $12. This picture is an MPX90 end fitting - same thing but with a -06 male pipe swivel.

Thanks! I'm guessing the B is boss, as in o-ring boss? I like how compact it is. Im filing this away in case i ever want to request my local shop put that style end on a hose for me. Unfortunately I am NOT ready to swing my own crimping setup even though that's about the only thing I ever have to pay anyone to do anymore. Thanks for the info!

You catch on fast. Here is a page to browse - lots of options. I make enough hoses my used Gates hose crimper paid for itself pretty quickly. If you only need one or two hoses made DHH is about the best deal going.

Ummm, yeah. Big typo. I tapped mine 3/8" NPT NOT 3/4". Sorry for the confusion.

Yours was the same as the lower picture, right? The one that looks more square in the drawing? So the proportions shown are misleading then. Cool. The Universal Block is looking more and more universal all the time! Lol

These are obsolete and no longer available. I have recently been contacted by a member asking if I will make him one of these after reading how I made mine. I know this comes up from time to time and would like to gauge the interest others might have -- if I`m going to set up to make a couple, I may as well make a few more.

Here are some photos of what I made in the past. I made the two shown out of steel, as that is what I had on hand, but I`m thinking aluminium would function just as well, be resistant to corrosion and cheaper to ship. I`m not sure of pricing yet -- I know metal pricing has shot up over the last year -- but would estimate it to be in the $30 to $50 range. Plus shipping.

Stock cover:

Inside of stock cover:

Inside (left) and outside (right) of diverter cover (note there is a third tapped outlet provided on the bottom face, all outlets tapped 3/ 8" NPT. Plug the unneded outlet or add a pressure gauge):

Hydraulic schematics from B7100 manual:
Not sure where you stand with this but if you are still curious about interest I'm most definitely interested in scoring one of these from you! Thanks!

I can tell you from personal experience that those small markets for "niche" items can get pretty big pretty quickly :)

True, and a Universal model is going to attract that much more.

Mine is 3.25 x 2.0 inches roughly and matches the B7100 manual drawing in the first post the best as I can tell.

I can post pictures if you want but it is definitely rectangular in shape.

Oh I believe you! To paraphrase Jessica Rabbit "I'm not square, I'm just drawn that way". :D

I think I had just looked up the thread for -06 orb (3/4"-16) and had that stuck in my head -- caught in some cobwebs, no doubt.

The purpose is to provide a take-off for powering hydraulic accessories such as a FEL or backhoe from the tractor's own hydraulic system instead of requiring a separate PTO pump. The top left shows the stock cover installed on the hydraulic block, the bottom shows the optional diverter cover installed, and the top right shows the cover dimensions:

Only certain models have them. Some other models have a diverter valve. Early B7100 models (among others) had no such provision at all, although all B7100 models (among others) have a selectable diverter valve under the front of the seat allowing the 3PH control to alternatively control an accessory single-acting cylinder instead.

Your L3301 has a similar block under the right floor board. It provides a hydraulic outlet for your loader, rear remotes, and back hoe and is described in more detail in the operators manual.
