Hi.
I am looking to get a flail mower for my kubota b7100 HST.

General concern is the stability of the tractor while opperating and that the 3point hitch should be able to lift the mower. I have been searching a lot for information on this and it has not been easy to find the information that i need to make a decision. Therefore I hope that this forum can help out🤠

Any experiences and recomendations to what width to choose and maximum weight to choose would be greatly apriciated. I´m mowing the forest bed so not thick grass but more sickles and spots of grass. So I´m not expecting that the mower will be operating on full capacity.

I have 13hp on my PTO.

Right now I have 3 options in focus. They are similarly priced but the last one seems the best quality (mainly due to weight and a heavier gear).

Hope you can help. Thanks in advance.

1: The first weighs 275 lbs and is 41 inches wide.

2: The second weighs 341lbs and is 49 inch wide.

3: The third is more heavy duty and weighs 551 pounds and is 43 inch wide.

My owners manual for my B7100HST lists the max weight for the 3pt lift at 400 lbs. I would think that should rule out the 3rd choice at 551 lbs. I run a 48 inch King Kutter brush cutter and it does a great job even in the taller thicker stands of cool season grasses. Of course I do listen to the tractor and slow down in areas such as that. As far as stability I have no issues except if I have the cutter lifted I can get light on the front tires. I am not running any front ballast but it would not be a bad idea to add some.
From your intended mowing conditions I think I would give serious thought to the 49 inch wide model.

You need to double check your manual as I have 6 different manuals and they all say 1000Lb (450kg)lift on the 3 point.

Both the 41 and the 49 require the same HK 14+ (I don't know how that translates to HP)
If it is a direct HK to HP then your below the lower limit.
Will it work, Yes, one major advantage is you have an HST so you can slow down to any pace to let it gain and maintain RPM on the thick stuff.
Heck just mow it more often! :)

NIW,
Maybe I have been reading my manual wrong, I always thought 400lbs seemed pretty weak. Here are pictures of the pertinent pages from my manual. I am reading , last row -three point lift, second column -max load capacity , fourth column 400 lbs.

Ken,
My deepest apologies I should know better then to try and get my info off the WSM's on the fly.
Here is what I was looking at:
B7100HST 3 point lift weight at top lift arms..JPG

Its the lift ability at the ends of the top arms on the three point arms.

Egg on my face.

NIW,
No apologies needed. I am just glad we can help out the OP on making an informed choice regarding a flail mower.

Thankyou for your time and advice! I have been quite confused about the lifting power just like Ken.
Thought that w1 was static load and w0 was lift capacity.

1000 lbs is the best news for a long time😄

And for the hk - that is the same as hp. Just in Danish. Autospell mistake I guess:)
Sounds like I should just take it easy then - that suits me fine.

thanks again to you - it helped a lot. Cheers

Hi Kristian,
I am interested in the decision you made regarding flail mowers. Which one did you go with? I am looking for a flail mower and have the same tractor. I have dense brush, and small trees in South Louisiana. I want to use it for cutting trails in dense wood areas and clearing a field. Thanks for your feedback, and any advice you can provide!
