Let go of the key? You mean take it back from the starter engage position to the run position? Or is it actual release of the key itself that triggers it to stop?

Sounds like it's not really running but turning over with a weak 'run' and it can't sustain it without the starter.

Usually that's a fuel issue with diesels, not enough of it (fuel). It can be a preheat problem. Are you running your glow plugs for 30-60 seconds before trying to fire it over?

Bad run solenoid, run relay, or bad key switch.
Sounds like it's loosing power to the fuel cutoff solenoid on one of 2 coils that are inside it.

Some of Kubota's use a 2 coil stop solenoid (in one package), first coil is the pull in coil (powered by cranking power) and the second coil is the hold coil (powered by run power)
A simple test light on the stop solenoid coil wires will verify that it is the solenoid and not before it.

If it does turn out to be the solenoid it is P/N 32721-60013

Thanks shaunRH i have been holding key over for 30 seconds and it has been starting and running. The driver that delivered it told me to just hold key for 5 seconds. also thanks wolfman i will also try testing solenoid wire.

Go with NI Wolfman's take, he's one of the best resources here. My troubleshooting will usually only get you in the ballpark, his will let you hit the ball out of the ballpark.
