B2650 too big?

Greetings,

I am currently working on a deal for a B2601 FEL MMM however, for just a little more money I can jump into the B2650. I have no doubts the B2601 will do everything I need but for $1,200 you can upgrade to a deluxe B2650. My concern is I mow 5 Acres of land and have 2 acres of woods I maintain, I don't want to sacrifice maneuverability by going to a larger frame tractor.

What are your thoughts? stay nimble with the B2601 or give up maneuverability and possibly mowing capabilities for the upgraded B2650?

Go with 2650, its plenty maneuverable and you can utilize the split brakess to lock one tire and basically spin around on a dime. Its really a non-issue, its the other +'s you get with the 2650 that make it worth it.

I’ve been very impressed with the maneuverability of my 2650. I do not intend to mow with it but i would see no issues with doing so. It’s very comfortable! I would not go smaller than a b2650. I was originally looking for a bx then a 2601 settled on the 2650. Glad I did. I wouldn’t be happy with a smaller tractor.

I have 10 acres...1.5 lawn, 1 acre farm land, 8 woods.

I use mine mostly for snow but do use it in the summer to mow a1/2 acre field. It works great.

I originally set out to buy a 2601 last fall to replace a B2100. After looking at several dealers and reading on this forum I got a 2650...

There really isn’t enough size difference between the B2601 and B2650 to make a noticeable maneuverability difference. What you will notice most is the added comfort and better control features of the B2650.

My biggest concern is of my 5 acres I mow there is a small part of it that's fenced in behind my house. I currently have a BX2370 that mows in those tight areas no problem.

I have to wonder if everyone is always choosing the B2650 over the 01 why the heck does Kubota even offer the B2601?

I like my B2620 and the B2601 makes it even nicer because it now has left side brakes so you can actually use the steer brakes easier (I use mine with my hand.) Plus the B2601 can now be had with factory style rear remotes and loader third function, same as the B2650.

My little B does everything I ask of it, and the money I saved buying it instead of the B2650 paid for my LandPride box blade and hydraulic angle rear blade.

Totally agree with BAP here. I looked at both, and went with the B2650 and was the best thing I did. A little bigger foot print for a little better ride, little more on the hydraulics capacities, and still a very nimble machine for mowing or what ever. I have close to 800 hrs on mine and it has been an awesome tractor. For what you are describing would be the way I would go. Good luck.

I have a lot of hillsides to mow. I forget exact numbers, but the B2100 had adjustable rear wheels that moved in and out in holes on the rear axle. Of course they don't have that option anymore. I always felt comfortable on a hill with the 2100.

The B2601 that I set out to buy had rear wheel spacing that was a few inches less in width than the old B2100. Probably nothing but it was narrower.
The B2650 is wider than the old B2100, and the B2601. I think B2100 was 51 inches outside to outside on rear wheels, B2601 was 48 and 2650 was 53. Added spacers to use with chains and it's 56 inches I think.

B2650 is a couple inches taller than the B2601, more ground clearance...
B2650 has a longer wheelbase than the B2601 you have to look at the specs but is not much longer. It can also lift about 200 pounds more on the FEL or grapple.

The old B2100 had a wonderful mid mount mower. Ground contour following, or ground engaging I think it's called. Proven design over many years use. It did a good job of striping the lawn too. The new B2601 has a suspended mower that hangs off the tractor. I guess the tractor tires are the gauge wheels for the mower. It does have hollow plastic anti scalp rollers. Probably it works fine. I just didn't want to buy it and find it wasn't as good as what I had before.The 2650 has the "old style" tried and true mmm that I have used about 30 years with 3 different Kubota tractors. That is what sold me on the 2650. It is still a 60 inch mower so it isn't much bigger than the others.

Edit: I looked up the numbers:
2601--- Wheel base 61.4- Overall length 94.9-- weight 1632 pounds
2650--- Wheel base 65.6- Overall length 101.2- weight 1896 pounds

So after spending some time today on both tractor at the dealer I decided to go with the B2650. Honestly I'm not real happy the 60in deck is not a drive over like the B2601 however, aside from that I felt size was not a concern at all and for the small premium it's a no brainier now!!!

Congrats on your new tractor. You will love it. As for the 60" mmm, it mounts really easy. You can push it in or pull it out from the right side of the tractor with one hand no problem. I like the design and I feel it is easier than trying to drive over one and keeping it from moving. You can just push it under the tractor and line it up, then hook it up. Works well for me. Good luck with your new tractor.

Congratulations on your purchase. As far as the drive over deck, my B2920 has it but I never use that feature. I put it in and out from the side. The dealer I bought it from discouraged driving over saying that over time it could damage the deck.

Congrads on the 2650 I don;t think you will be sorry,, as far as the eck goes 10 min off and on a piece of cake. I looked at the drive over and to tell the truth I think theres to many things that can go wrong,,I might be wrong

Been driving on and off my deck 4 summers now with my loader on. Not even a chip in the paint. So I wouldn't worry about the drive over decks.
