All,
I know there are a few threads on the project to replace the magneto on the B2650 to an alternator, but I have a few questions that I did not see answered in those other threads:
- I see a few different versions of an alternator that, from reading previous threads, will work on the B2650 (although that model is not specifically listed. 16241-64013 is the most current OEM part number I see for that. Question is, would you all strongly recommend paying the extra for the OEM version or is after-market fine? If aftermarket, are there some sources for a better after-market version than others?
- So, forgive my ignorance... Does the current configuration (with magneto) utilize a voltage regulator? If so, is it integral to the magneto or a separate part? I did not see it in the wiring diagram in the WSM.
- If the voltage regulator used with the magneto is a separate part, can that be used with the alternator?
- If a voltage regulator is required and the one used with the magneto setup is not appropriate, do the alternators (OEM and/or after-market) have them on-board or is it a separate part I need to purchase and install?
Thanks for any input/advice you can provide. I am generally pretty happy with my dealer, but the parts guy has not called me back re: the alternator so I still have these questions.
Thanks,
Dean
