We are in the process of changing out a busted clutch disc and pressure plate in a B20, total 980hr's running time. Dissembled, the flywheel looks like it has never been used. Since I have had this tractor, bought it last fall, the clutch would never disengage. The pedal did nothing but allow start up. There are no hot spots, no marking at all on the flywheel. It looks brand new. We are thinking that the clutch has "never" released on this machine. The pressure plate springs and disc came apart and tore the pieces up bad causing no engagement of the clutch. Wondering if this is a common problem. I have read Kubota reccommends blocking the clutch pedal disengaged while long term setting...Hummmmm...Big job we have here.
new disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing and drive coupling, in the process of reassembly..
estimated shop repair cost..$4000.00....Thanks to my friend Rusty for offering up the helping hand on this....Just sayin' Walt

Am I missing something or should 4 grand buy 4 B-20 clutch replacements?
Don't know about how expensive they should be but $4000.00 sounds like it should buy a new motor or entire transmission to me, let alone a new clutch. Ouch.

This says it's a B20...

That should have less than a $1000 clutch in it, so I'm with the 4 clutches view point.

Did you cross check those costs on line?

4000.00 was a repair estimate from a local repair shop. Parts and labor. I couldn't see paying it. The parts cost were 600.00 for what we replaced. To remove the FEL and BH and split the tractor took 2 fairly intense days. I did a bad job of saying that its an expensive job to hire out..

Well, $4k is still expensive for a 2 day shop job, but it makes sense now... at 16 hours that's $212 per hour for the mechanic/shop... so very high- OUCH.

I would guess that job should be 8 hours @ $100 per hour plus 30-50% for the shop. That put's the work at $1700 to $2000 for a reasonable non-dealer shop. (Dealerships charge more because every group at the dealership wants a piece of the job but that's about 100% on the labor cost, so $2700, still not $4K  )
