80wt? I don't know much about this machine, but I think that might be an issue. Others more knowledgeable will respond.

The front wheel drive axle gets 80w, but the transmission shares a sump with the hydraulic system and should get tractor hydraulic fluid, such as Kubota UDT or equivalent.

For reference, mine has no problem or hesitation lifting a 420 lb snowblower. Plus the weight of whatever snow happens to be stuck to the sides, so 100lbs is a definite problem.

It's just a manual (standard) transmission, does it need to be anything special? Does it differ in some way from an automotive manual trans, aside from the hydraulic pump?

Was UDT around in 1985? I think 80W will do fine.
I have a downloaded owner's manual of unspecified vintage. However the picture on the front shows a 4-bolt front rim.

It specifies using UDT in the transmission. That said, there is a final cryptic notation that reads: "Do not mix up the other nature of oi l other than aboves. When it is necessary to use SAE No. 80 gear oil by some reasons, you must drain oil off completely."

The older hydraulic systems I worked on used 10w or 20w motor oil. Guess that would translate to ISO 32 or ISO 46. Never used 80w in a hydraulic system but you learn something new everyday.

I drained the 80wt oil and cycled thru 5 gal of cheap hyd. oil - filled it with Kubota's hyd. oil and it all works good now. Thanks for the help, somewhere I read that it took 80wt, then some place else I read 10wt, I've heard motor oil-----glad I went with the UDT oil----now I know.
