Anyone ever put a D905 into a b7100? Was that straight forward.

I have an OLD b7100 with an equally tired d750. A D905 has popped up locally for sale and was wondering if I could replace the 750 with the 905. Thoughts on this?

Hopefully someone with actual experience will chime in but as it's a different series engine you would have to carefully check dimensional drawings for each engine to ensure they mate successfully, and then look at flywheels/clutches etc. Some drawings are available on the web for the 70mm series and 05 series engines, then a bit of chasing parts manuals I expect.
Good luck!

Ahh thanks. I will start looking for those. I think I had found those at one point when I did not need them..... the search continues. Thanks for chiming in.

Jason, I think there are a few folks who installed a D950 in replacing a D750. It pretty much the same engine, but greater output. And, I think they had to modify the alternator and a couple of other parts.

Might try a search on this form for "D950 swap for D750" or something like that.

Thank you I was looking at a 905. I did find the 950 swap which seems pretty straight forward but was not sure about the 905. I am getting a feeling that it is not.

It would not be an "straight forward swap" as several key elements are on the opposite side and lower.
also one very key issue is if it's 4WD is if the old oil pan would fit the new motor as you would need that to get the propeller shaft to fit.

So check all the dimensions very carefully! ;)

Estill Springs TN,
I swapped a D950 into my 79 B7100D a couple of years ago. The D950 will bolt directly to the bell housing and front sub frame, that's the easy part. If you don't mind cutting up the engine bay side panel to mount the alternator on the outside and retain a single belt set up then that would make installation easier. There are a few other mods to tend to but its doable. I went with a dual belt set up, mounted a new 2 pulley alternator above the injection pump and moved the radiator forward. I installed a stop solenoid and rewired everything.
