This morning I drained and cleaned the water seperator on my tractor. When I dumped the water and fuel into a container I noticed a clump of brown sudstance come out with it which I have not seen in the past.

I live in the deep south where it is hot and humid a good portion of the year. I also have not used any fuel additives since buying the tractor in December of 2016. Tractor is a L4701 with 80hrs on it.

Opinions and suggestions welcomed.

I live in the deep south too and fortunately I've been able to avoid your fuel situation. I used clear diesel and filter the diesel I put in my tractor with a Mr. Funnel. It definitely takes longer to fuel up but it's kept me out of trouble.

#1 Clear or red dyed doesn't matter same fuel.
#2 Filtering helps but it's not the end all, I filter all of my fuel twice, but condensation in the tractor tank will put water in the fuel then algae can grow. :(
Treat your fuel! ;)

Thanks NIW, I don’t think the water is coming from the pump as I fuel it at the same station I fuel my diesel truck. I drain and check the water seperator on my truck monthly and have never seen even a drop of water in it.

My biggest problem is I fill the tractor tank on the way to my property and when I get home it sits out with whatever fuel is left until I use it again.

I will start treating my fuel and also start filling the tank when I get home to minimize air space in the tank for condensation.

Neither of the 2 Napa’s here had Soltron so I had to order it. Closest Napa was in NOLA and I am not going there, will just do without it for this week.

I use the fuel funnel but I always treat each tank full with a BioCide treatment. I had problems before the BioCide treatment.

You might consider draining the tank by disconnecting the rubber fuel line on the inlet side of filter and refill with the biocide and fresh fuel.

Yep that's algae, Treat your fuel containers and tractor fuel tank with an algicide.

I uses Soltron, you can get it at Napa. ;)

This morning I went pick up the Soltron I ordered from NAPA. Left my tractor at my property in the country but headed back Wednesday to finish cutting roads, powerline and food plots. I will treat my tank when I fill it up on the way home.

I only put 6hrs on it last week but didn’t see any water in the seperator so I don’t think I have any amount of water in the tank. Hopefully by keeping the tank full and adding the fuel treatment every fillup all will be good.
