What a difference in a couple years, couple years ago this time I was clearing snow, this year my wife and I spent most of the day doing a road side burn and listening to tractor tunes. Here comes the mud season.

I spent the morning trying to get the gravel back on my driveway, reversing the back blade did okay but still had some gravel drift off the side of the road. Used my snowblade, dragging it back in float and tilted, that seemed to do a good job. Then I spent a few hours grading/smoothing the drive. Really mild so far this winter and not nearly as much damage as in the past. Always a good day when you are on the Kubota, listening to rock and roll.

Always a good day when you can get outside, do things you enjoy and to share it with your life mate makes it all the sweeter!

Your a little ahead of us, but the mud season is upon us. I usually have to leave my truck out near the main road and come in and out with the atv so we don't tear up the road.

Last couple of years it wasn't too bad, just had to leave the truck out the road for a couple days. We could probably use it but we put a lot of time and money into it to get it where it is now. The pic's are before we did all the work when the frost was starting to come out.

Our grass was green yesterday.
Today it's white. Six Inches of White!
It's gonna be awhile before we're cutting any grass around here.

Did you put cloth down before you did the rock?
Makes a huge difference on keeping the mud at bay.

This picture was a couple years ago, we dodged the bullet this year, it's driveable.

I had to do that to mine too,, it is a heavy woven cloth landscape cloth comes in rolls about 8 feet wide. Rocks will not punch through but water will drain away so even though the surface seems soft the stone stays on top. I used I think geotex only cause it was the right price,, you know free,,,
This might help

After looking at the price I think it would have to be free if I was to do this mile long driveway. No doubt a great idea but just too much for me unless I can find something a little cheaper than what I've looked at.

Check around if you have any mines in the area,, they use a lot of that stuff on roadways. You might be able to talk them out of a roll or 2 or maybe a bunch of odd end rolls. Mines like to keep good neighbors it keeps people off there back when they muck things up

Greetings BB, Lee here, instead of using Class A which is small, you might want to check into Surge Stone which is 3" to 4" in size, they use it in my area for making new driveways and roads, makes a good solid base.

Question: Once you put down the cloth, does that eliminate re-grading without rock application again in the future? Or does it do such a good job that regrading is unnecessary?

Have a Kubota friend in Ohio who is about to add gravel to his long drive and I was worried that putting fabric down would make a real mess in the future if you tried to grade the layer on top of the fabric. Sounds like that is not an issue if the mines are using it under their base...

Any long-term (2-3 season) users out there?
