Take a look at this rear ballast.

450lb ballast plate for a category 1 3 point hitch, Made from plate steel 24'' wide 17" tall 4" thick..

I like this idea a lot. Small, compact and HEAVY. (but too spendy at $350)

Craigs List if anyone is interested. http://abbotsford.craigslist.ca/grd/4714302232.html

Right now I just put the box blade or mower on the back, but I like the idea of the utility carrier with some cheap 5 gal buckets full of sand or concrete on the utility carrier to make an adjustable ballast box.

Sadly, that chunk of steel will cost a fortune. If you can get scrap railroad ties, I-beams or maybe even drill pipe, you could fab something up like that. I was originally thinking drill pipe with ends welded on it and filled with lead but now I'm enamored of the utility carrier with sand buckets on it.

All I know is it would be really BAD if it fell over, picking it up off the ground would be really hard! ;)

Trust me if it fell over, it would stay where it fell!

I took the length of the plate 17" multiplied by the width 24" multiplied by the thickness 4", added the weight of the 2 pins, (minus the threads cut off ), added the top link connection, added the through bolts, subtracted the scolloping created by the cutting, add the weight of the paint, and ended up with a huge head ache. :( :( :(
