Newbie here. I have a L3130 w/ LA 723 FEL. The right lift cylinder has developed a leak. My question is, should I have both cylinders rebuilt or just the leaking one?

Unless the second one is being done at 50% off, there's no real reason to do both. The other one can be done at any time if it fails.

and it usually does in a short time after the one fails. I generally recommend doing both so that doesn't happen, if at all possible. I understand and respect budget concerns.

My experience when 2 cylinders are doing the same job when you only repair one the other will go shortly after. I'd do both and be done with it.

Pending cost. The loader is of no use with one cylinder out, you're already going to the repair shop and an additional trip back. Tools required for removal and install are already in your hands. If both are done they should receive the same treatment by the same mechanic. I believe it's like vehicles what you do to one side you do to the other side. Just my .02

Mo beat me to it ! Do both, heck with the cost.....(unless a NEW cylinder is cheaper).
You need to also consider the 'down time' of not having the loader to use. Say you've a new travel trailer coming next weekend, and you NEED to gravel a new pad for it. Without the cylunders, the loader won't work, the tractor doesn't get used, pad don't get built, trailer not delivered and wife's parents have to sleep in your house for their month long stay....;)

On my LA402 loader I noticed one of the curl cylinders leaking. Was about to take it off for rebuild when I noticed the other one just started leaking. Got both rebuilt by a local hydraulic shop. This was a bit over a year ago.

Cost each was $100. The shop supplied the seals and O-rings. My cost for the Kubota seal kits would have been about $60 each delivered. For an extra $40 per cylinder it was worth it to me to have someone who knew what they were doing do the work.

Based on my experience, and the recommendations of others above, unless I was doing it myself I would get both cylinders rebuilt at the same time.

Absolutely no sarcasm or disrespect intended with the following. My hydraulic shop is 15 minutes away. I do my own work. I disassemble the cylinder, remove the piston and gland, then have the shop put the seals on the piston and in the gland. Shop charged me $30 with the seals. I did one lift cylinder 4 years ago when I bought the machine. I did one dump cylinder last year, along with straightening both rods (another no-no). All 4 continue to work perfectly with no leaks. I'll continue with what works for me.

For arguments sake, if the OP is the original owner and nothing has been rebuilt.... there are 4 cylinders that may cause down time at some point in the future. And the ones that aren't leaking are the most abused.

Removed the cylinder and ran it over to hydraulic shop for seals. $50 and it will be ready Monday at noon. Give me a chance to get some maintenance on the tractor done.

I agree! It is a waste of money to reseal a cylinder that is not leaking!

and a waste of money/time when you are trying to use the tractor and the other one leaks, then it's down again for a few days...Murphy's law...if it can happen it will and at the worst possible time. That's been my experience, I guess everyone's different.
