All,
I know there are a few threads on the project to replace the magneto on the B2650 to an alternator, but I have a few questions that I did not see answered in those other threads:

- I see a few different versions of an alternator that, from reading previous threads, will work on the B2650 (although that model is not specifically listed. 16241-64013 is the most current OEM part number I see for that. Question is, would you all strongly recommend paying the extra for the OEM version or is after-market fine? If aftermarket, are there some sources for a better after-market version than others?

- So, forgive my ignorance... Does the current configuration (with magneto) utilize a voltage regulator? If so, is it integral to the magneto or a separate part? I did not see it in the wiring diagram in the WSM.

- If the voltage regulator used with the magneto is a separate part, can that be used with the alternator?

- If a voltage regulator is required and the one used with the magneto setup is not appropriate, do the alternators (OEM and/or after-market) have them on-board or is it a separate part I need to purchase and install?

Thanks for any input/advice you can provide. I am generally pretty happy with my dealer, but the parts guy has not called me back re: the alternator so I still have these questions.

Thanks,

Dean

Sorry I don't have any answers for you but I also want to put an alternator on my tractor eventually so I would like to fallow this thread. Good luck and keep us posted

First it's not a magneto it a dynamo. ;)
Yes the dynamo uses a regulator / rectifier under the dash.
No the new alternator does not use or need the regulator it's got it's own internal regulator/ rectifier.
You don't use the wiring off of the dynamo, it just gets abandoned along with the voltage regulator.
You run one wire from power (check the wiring harness as it might already be there) to the alternator.

I don't know where you got your alternator P/N from?, but the proper one is
P/N K7561-61910 or K7561-61913

Along with the alternator you will also need to get these parts:
Bracket 1J089-64420
Bolt and nut's:
01774-51090
02131-50100
01127-50825

Not sure but belt length might change.

Alternator: should be P/N K7561-61910 or K7561-61913

Wolfman,
Thanks very much for the info. Oops... yes, dynamo, not magneto... I guess I had superheroes on the brain :D.
Okay, that's kind of what I was expecting/hoping to hear about a separate voltage regulator and the fact that the alternator has one on-board.
I will have to check my p/n source...likely a typo on my part but thought I copied it from Messicks web-site where they reference the replacement part for the old p/n I had.
Thanks very much for the eBay link... that second one to the OEM Denso alternator is a much better price than I was seeing elsewhere.

By the way... I used to visit your fair town back in the late 70's when I lived in western Montana. Sandpoint was the closest city that had real grocery stores and a couple of good sporting goods stores (can't remember the names but one was downtown and the other was on the outskirts a bit... was one called Pastime?).
Had a stepbrother that worked at the shake(?) mill and was a taxidermist. Stepdad had family in East Hope.

Thanks again, Dean

What is the purpose for the switch from dynamo to alternator? Just asking, because the ONLY failures I've ever seen with the dynamo's are seized bearings. Easily repairable by a backyard mechanic for about $10. They are dirt simple and work well, and honestly don't fail very often. Alternators....different story.

Kubota sells a kit that fits another model but has all the parts needed. I cant remember which model it is off the top of my head, 2320 seems to come to mind but I can't verify it at the moment. I swapped mine out and it was fairly simple and straight forward.

The OE dynamo doesn't output enough amperage to run additional lighting or other electrical add ons. IIRC the Dynamo puts out 10 or 11 amps and the alternator puts out 43 amps.
