    NipponDenso Voltage Reg

Voltage Reg (VR) stopped working; no charging voltage. Tapping on the VR gives a momentary increase to 13+ volts then returns to battery voltage. Happy to know the alternator is good after almost 50 years. The old VR inside looks new no issues I could see but the underside was showing some age...

    l285 FRONT TIRES

Apparently no one has switched to turf tires or modern rim/tires; or so it would seem. Had new 6 ply AG 5.00 x 15.0 tires installed on the stock rims... which is all good, they just dig into the sandy soil on sharper turns. If you are in the Fort Worth area, COWSER TIRE on 820 has great...

    l285 FRONT TIRES

I currently have AG tires on my 1975 Kubota L285 and wondering if there are "modern" wheels and tires that fit the 6 lug (bolt) Kubota hubs. I was thinking of installing a "turf" tire or basic radial. Any "modern" suggestions for the OEM wheels?

NO WAY I was going outside when it was -2F to get an AWESOME pic like yours!!! I will just say mine looked like that too. ;-)

    Condensation

To say Texas has had some very strange weather lately would be an understatement and a TEXAS sized understatement at that... Went out to the shop today for reasons other than tractor time and found very large puddles of "water" on the floor under the tractor. SO LARGE in fact I thought my shop...

    Happy Grandma

Today was the first time in 5 years Grandma saw the old L285 working and it made her smile. I would also think she might have thought back to a time when "Pa" would roam around the property doing whatever "Pa" does... Pa has been gone for three years now so pretty nice to be able to make...

Aftermarket hydraulic cylinders vs OEM for L285

Please post a picture of your cylinders for a better idea of what you are working on. I'm not sure what FEL you have so only way is to see it. The 1200 FEL has a "lock wire" that holds the end cap on. It was very easy to remove.

Aftermarket hydraulic cylinders vs OEM for L285

WOW Your local shop charged (or wanted to) $100 to rebuild? DANG I would have had mine done for that price!! The shop the Kubota dealer refered me to wanted $500 (in Fort Worth) so I did it myself and will again if needed. Crazy I usually default to the dealer for parts and service outside my...

Aftermarket hydraulic cylinders vs OEM for L285

Not familiar with the 700 loader but I just rebuilt my bucket cylinders (1200 FEL) and it was VERY EASY to do. This is something you can do; no special tools needed just a little patience and knowledge. What are the cylinder part numbers? Good luck and FYI a seal kit is $35ish so might be worth...

Hydraulic fluid getting in crankcase L-285

Gotta learn somehow and plenty of good peeps here willing to help. Interesting set up and good to know there are options if needed in the future. I use O'Reillys Universal (Kubota UDT is listed) the TS version should be equivalent. I will send you some L285 info I have collected of the years...

Hydraulic fluid getting in crankcase L-285

Just comparing the setup you have because my hyd pump (for the FEL) is mounted on the front of the tractor driven by the crankshaft. I could not imagine (based on my configuration) how Hyd could get into the oil so had to ask. The picture is the pressure relief? Where is your pump mounted? This...

    BT 1200 Loader for L245DT

My Hyd pump is mounted (four bolts) in front of the front axle and driven by the crank shaft via an extension shaft that runs under the radiator and battery. The reservoir is side mounted and holds about 5 gallons. The lift and bucket control valve is located just above the reservoir.

    L285 runs cold

Good morning Mr Peabody, I too have a early L285, 1975 model year I think. Always looking for insight on this tractor, look forward to seeing your maintenance projects posted. FYI, I just finished a water pump and fan belt. Not too bad but I have a crankshaft mounted Hyd pump that made changing...
