I’d like to see the trailer hitch on your box blade. I want to add one to mine so I don’t have to drop the box blade every time I need to move a trailer. I have a Land Pride BB1248 (but could really use the BB1260 or BB1272 behind the LX). I want to build something I can easily swap to a new blade if I decide to spend the money, maybe a clamp-on of some sort. I’m shamelessly asking to see yours so I can plagiarize it. I might shamelessly do exactly that. I don’t really want it for pulling a fully loaded 7K trailer, but it should support my yard trailer loaded with leaves etc.

I was originally planning to butt weld it, reason for the half moon cutout on the tube. Built the tray before I decided to cut a hole and weld on both sides, I got lucky and it wasn’t in the way that much.
The angled channel of the box is in the way of the tray.

Works good enough for splitter and trailer shuffling.

Yeah, now I remember seeing this as well as the one posted by @Lil Foot. I have plenty heavy steel to reinforce, up to 6x6 thick wall. The back of the Land Pride is a little thin to depend on for any significant loading, but I think I can fit something up. I just don’t want to mod the blade past the point of resale because a 4 footer is too narrow for the LX. Might work with a standard LX, but the LX-SU with big feet is way too wide for the blade I got in the package I don’t think I want much weight at all on the back wall of the blade. IIRC a 2” box beam fits inside 2-1/2” beam. Got the 2”, now to see if I have any 2-1/2”.

Just finished building this

and it was a completely different game having the LX for a helper. Got another just to the right of this one that I built with nothing but scraps except the roof and wire and fasteners. It was perfectly sized for having 12 birds. I find myself with 24 of them after the CFO did her chicken math. Waiting for the young ones to start laying and eating layer feed so we can combine original 6 with them. Any day now…….
My granddaughter (on the right) has a rather strange knack of picking up any one of the birds with zero resistance. They don’t even wiggle when she picks them up. I usually get a face full of wings and a belly full of toenails when I try. Still don’t know what the heck we’re gonna do with 2 dozen eggs every day.

Hell of a job, sir! Hell of a job!

I wish I knew how to build something like that.

What kind of strutters them is LOL? We've always had brahmas.

We have an early 90s farmhouse that is set up really weird. Had an area off the side of the basement that was open, so I wrapped it up and turned it into a coop.

And luckily there wasn't too much garbage to pick up, missed some things though

Besides my pond dam, this is about the steepest part I cut on the side. Pond dam I have to cut up and down.

Had a family here picking and their 2 youngins were glued to the tractor. Ended up giving them a ride then parking her out by the berries so they could climb around on her and do family pics and stuff. They had an awesome time.

You should have replaced the shy of 3 gallons plus what may have been in the filters. Some of the original oil remained in the system.
You know... in retrospect, I shoulda been thinking more clearly rather than just blindly following the owners manual. I am hopeful that dementia is still at bay in several years when I next cross the HST fluid change off my list so I can remember this aspect.

I pulled a gallon out and rechecked the levels and all is well. Ran the tractor around for awhile and no leaks anywhere - not even from the two front axle hub seals I replaced. I'll be damned!! I plan to mow with the finish mower for 2hours one afternoon this week so we'll see how it really turned out.

Hey Moots-

Great job. this is something I have been kicking around for a bit now and your post simply hit the refresh button. I have a question regarding the receiver tube's location and angle.

I rarely navigate perfectly flat ground on my property. More often than not, if I inadvertently leave the box blade "low" in the 3pt lift range, I will scrape going thru dips or uneven ground so when moving around with the box blade on, I usually have it at max lift to keep it out of the way.

Where the box blade is in the lift spectrum AND where you have the toplink set to angle the blade will have a huge impact on what "level" means in respect to the addition of this 2in receiver mount. This angle of incidence calculation could be an exercise in over-thinking (as is my usual!) but it is what has kept me from moving forward on the mod so far.

Did you mount your receiver at an angle to compensate for blade lift/tilt at some optimal setting? Have you had any issues since mounting the receiver that has revealed that you might have put some sort of angle to the receiver so that at optimal blade lift/tilt the receiver was relatively level?

Like you and many of the others, I have no desire to haul big loads with this setup. But it would be nice to shuffle trailers around or do some light duty brush hauling with my 5x8 utility trailer without the hassle of box blade removal.

We have lots of different birds. It’s so diverse we may have an issue with the latest DEI rules. It is a very long and quite humorous story how we wound up at 24 birds (barring the unfortunate high mortality rate of chicks raised without a mother hen), which mostly revolves around “Happy Wife,Happy Life” postulates and theories. She took a job at Tractor Supply in December and Chick Days starts in February in Alabama. We got the first six in August and in the meantime, she learned chicken math. This woman had sworn off ever having pets, especially needy pets. I really don’t think she understood all the facts and information I gave her about chickens. We now even have a sign that says “It isn’t hoarding if it’s chickens!” But, she goes to work while I have “nothing to do “ in my retirement. I can’t deprive her of her few indulgences.
So far, we have:

3-Barred Rock (laying)
2-Australorp (laying)
1-Ameraucana (laying)
2-Isa Brown
2-Black SexLink
1-Sapphire
2-Cream Legbar (one of which appears to be an imposter)
1-Amber Link
1-Chocolate Orpington
2-California Whites
1-Starlight Green Egger
3-Blue Leg Beauties
2-(something) Onyx (zombie chickens)
1-Smoky Pearl

This is the result of chicken math and a spouse who works at Tractor Supply in the freight handling and picks up the chick deliveries at the post office. If one chick dies, it must be replaced with at least 3 more. Make that 4 more because TSC has a 4 chick minimum purchase here, which drops to 3 at some point in late summer. Getting them spread out over 5 weeks did NOT help assimilation into the same living space. And we still haven’t moved the laying birds because the young ones are still on starter feed. I’ve got the three ring circus (4 at one time) reduced to two rings, and hopefully will get it down to one major event in the next few weeks. The oldest young birds are changing behavior and showing signs that they are going to start laying soon. I still don’t have an answer about what the heck we’re going to do with 2 dozen eggs every day. I’m pretty sure there’s more chicken math involved. I finally told her boss and coworkers that she needed intervention because she was becoming a chicken junkie. I wind doing the lions share of the caretaking and tending because she works. I think she realizes now that chickens are like having a bunch of toddlers.
We had a pretty bad mortality rate this spring. Some chicks just don’t seem to learn to eat or drink, and some just get trampled by the others. I only wanted another half dozen, but wound up with 3x that number.

Today a gave my New Sunshine L1-225 a bit of extra shine. I spraypainted the wheels and ROPS. So they are bright white again. Also fixed the left headlight, I broke the glass when i loaded the muckspreader.

@Old_Paint

What to do with two dozen eggs a day?

For the Westerner cake I believe my mother just used the yolks from the dozen eggs used for the angel food cake (but I can’t swear on that).

On the banana pudding if you use chessman cookies instead of vanilla wafers it is tasty. Add whipped cream layers and now you have something to brag about.

Around here people set up a self serve roadside egg shop and ask $5 dozen. That might pay for some food!

Nice job on the new chicken pen. I also have a flock of layers here. We could never get
away with poultry wire here due to the racoons. It will keep chickens in but won't keep coons out. Heavy welded wire is a must. I have 13 in the brooder that are almost a week old now.
Once folks try home raised eggs, they will prefer them, and become regular customers
that save cartons for you. I will always have a flock of birds here.

24!? Wow, sounds like y'all could be eating egg sandwiches everyday if you wanted to LOL.

That's why I stopped at 10. Although I've never raised them from little chicks. Always several weeks old when we get them. All of ours are around 5 years old now.

They give us more eggs than we can usually keep up with. If you're not careful, you'll be eatin' like ole napoleon was LOL
1749489227655.png

And you're right, they are like toddlers. During the day ours run around a fenced acre area. Being brahmas they are quite large and not prone to aerial attacks. But my only real reason for fencing them was they would wonder far from the house, out in our berries, off in the woods, everywhere.

Makes an easy place to toss the hitch, for whatever reason. Probably toss a short chain back there too.

I went back a forth thinking the same thing. Really wished I would have taken some measurements when blade was on tractor and level, as I took just the blade to work, to do the work. The EA blade has an angle on the back that was messing with my eyes, I leveled it up and just went for it.
I did drop the adjustable hitch down one hole since the splitter looked nose high while the box blade was high.

He’s got a top link tilt cylinder. Angle of the dangle solved. I’ve resisted the mod for the very same reasons as you but the number of times I had to swap the BB and tow bar this spring was beyond ridiculous.
Whether you hand crank the top link or use hydraulics, the angle of the vertical back wall of the BB where the receiver will be mounted changes in respect to the tongue of any trailer hitched to it. I do not see how him having a hydraulic top link solves the angle of the dangle. You still only get one chance to line the receiver up optimally cause once you fully weld that bugger in, she's all but permanent.

I went back a forth thinking the same thing. Really wished I would have taken some measurements when blade was on tractor and level, as I took just the blade to work, to do the work. The EA blade has an angle on the back that was messing with my eyes, I leveled it up and just went for it.

Yeah I can see maybe using some strong magnets to line up some mock-ups of the receiver tube out of either taped cardboard or possibly lightweight pine to determine an optimum location and angle for the 2in receiver tube. It's all academic at this point anyway asi have neither the parts on hand or the time to mess with it. But I have saved all this reference material for when I do get ready.
