Hydraulics are too fast, or Im too slow

I rented pallet forks to unload something and, wow, thats not like running a fork lift. I could barely touch the curl without sending the load bouncing off the end of the forks. Way faster than I am on the controls. Any way of mitigating that?

I noticed this too on the tilt side of my top and tilt. The curl on the rear is too slow, but the tilt is way fast. Anything I can do smooth things out?

Low throttle, btw

Thanks

When moving the stick to the right, you need to go past the detent for more control.

If you want even more speed control, you can install inline flow controls on the hoses or cylinders.

What are you running for machine? Hard to give you advice without knowing if you are talking about a tractor, skid steer, lawn mower, utv or something else.

If you haven't had a lot of experience operating the hydraulics, maybe it's just a matter of becoming more familiar with them. Try being more gentle with the controls and see if that helps.

You should be able to feather the valve control body but we don't know what you are running...

If this is for long term usage, I installed a "needle valve" (Cost more than restriction orifice) but are adjustable. To be honest, I set it once and never changed it from the original setting.

Again not knowing your hose size, this is the one I have.... https://www.surpluscenter.com/Hydraulics/Hydraulic-Valves/Flow-Control-Valves/Inline-Needle-Valves/3-8-NPT-8-GPM-Wolverine-by-Prince-WFC-600-In-Line-Flow-Control-9-7960-6.axd

{EDIT} That one only has flow control in one direction... This one gives flow control in both directions.

The best thing about these, you can slow down your FEL when you are using them as "FORKS" then speed them up when you want normal operations.

YES , operating pallet forks on a tractor is a LOT different than a forklift !!! After 7 years still not smoooooooth using them on my BX23S,especially compared to the A-C 5K forklift I had.
I use my left hand to brace my right , which helps but it's still a BIG 'learning curve'.
Other 'trick' , use the slowest RPM you can to do the operations.

The 'valving' is NOT designed/built the same way as a true forklift.

Yes ypu can adjust flow rate. How you do it depends on your particular needs.

What model tractor and loader?

Is the bucket OK other than the rental forks?

What is "curl" on a top and tilt setup?

What sort of rear remote valves do you have?

the stick and remote levers are proportional on my l6060 maybe you are jamming them over too hard. just a guess without seeing how your doing it.

Several yrs ago while handling rd bales with a Kubota M4900 with Kubota FEL I added an adjustable hyd flow control valve so boom wouldn't lower so fast with a 4X5.5 rd bale on bale spears. A similar adjustable type flow control valve could be added to bucket circuit.

Don't adjust the flo rate unless you are only using it as a forklift.

As others have stated.... drop your throttle and gently move the lever.

Yeah whoops, forgot to provide details. Its a lx2620 with stock kubota rear hydraulics and top and tilt.

It sounds like short of a permanent adjustment on the flow rate, im just gonna have to get used to it.

Thanks all.

There is no problem with pump flow rate. You may need restrictors in the hoses for some things like a electric third function or grapple cylinder but you do not want to mess with the flow coming from the pump.

I own a LX2610 and use my forks all the time. As said before; lower your throttle, basically to idle, and move the lever Slowly. When you get the forks in the pallet and start to lift, then go up on the throttle. BUT still slowly feather the stick.

It will never be as slow and forgiving as a true forklift. But with time you will master it.

1. Idle down, especially when lowering (looks like you are doing that already).

2. Use two hands on the control and one direction at a time. Your main (usually right) hand at the end of the lever, as normal, using fingertip pressure. The second (preferably braced against something) firmly grips closer to the base of the lever and acts as a damper.

Ease the pressure onto the lever until the load starts to move, no more. Ease the pressure off in anticipation of stopping.

(FWIW: this is how we teach recruits to control the ladder. If you think forks jump around, you should try fine control of a fully extended 100' Aerial <lol>)

I had listed the wrong needle valve in my post above, that valve only works in ONE direction. You'll need a valve like the one below, which works in both directions. The best thing about these, you can slow down your FEL when you are using them as "FORKS" then speed them up when you want normal FEL operations. Just dial in the speed you need, it's not a permanent reducer.

You'll need to buy adapters to connect them inline to your system....

I added this to my post above... {EDIT} That one only has flow control in one direction... This one gives flow control in both directions.

Another thing to remember with using forks on a FEL tractor, is if your on uneven ground, your tires will also greatly effect the tip of the forks movement ...
