My wife's friend gave her a can of Campbell's Tomato & Rice soup and asked if she could get some. I checked Amazon, Ebay, Walmart, etc. There is some for sale but at Walmart an 11 oz can was $4.47. I did a quick internet search and discovered the factory is shutting down.

Covid, not enough help, low sales....

At $4.47 for an 11 oz can, no wonder why they are shutting down!

Was that for one can? Amazing...

Cheaper somewhere else? I realize if they are shutting down there may be a supply and demand issue...

I just purchased Cambell's turkey, chicken and beef gravy on sale for $0.50 a jar, it'll expire in March of 2024. I bought 24 and put a half a jar on top of the dogs, food they love it.

Y'all will probably think I'm crazy. But my all time favorite soup is plain Jane cambells tomato made with milk instead of water.

It will be missed if they quit making that one. 🥺🥺🥺

Used to buy them 10 for a dollar when I was in college, then I remember in the 1990s they were 5 for a dollar. No idea what they cost today.

Way back when I was in college, I had a dog, actually, it was everyone in the apartment's dog. It was very lean between paychecks, no beer, and many times not much in the way of food. We always made sure that the dog had food even if we didn't. A lot of times it was a can of Campbell's tomato soup and some Ritz crackers sometimes with peanut butter, but most of the time not. That dog would look at you with sad eyes if you didn't share what you had with him. Strange thing is that I remember the dog, but not his name, nor who took him home when we left college. That is so long ago, that it is just a blurred memory like so many other things in life.

I kind of agree with mattwithcats. I eat soup for lunch at work probably 3 days a week so I still buy canned soup routinely.

Maybe not everywhere, but here Campbell’s used to pretty much own the soup aisle at all the grocery stores. Not so much any more and not for several years.

From the standpoint of sodium content, broth to “other stuff” ratio, cost per ounce, flavor: there are now better options in the soup aisle IMO. That’s obviously a very broad statement about their overall traditional red/white label fleet of soups and there are exceptions within that group. Still they just haven’t adapted and continued to be as competitive as they once were.
