I have a quart of Kubota 15W40 oil. I want to start using Rotella 15W40. Would it hurt any thing to mix the two. Thanks

I have no idea where this old idea came from that you should not mix brands. There has NEVER been any problem with it. Brand or weight, it doesn't matter. As long as the oil is compatible with your engine, just use it.

It will make the air in your tires smell like rubber.

Someone posted a pic right out of the Kubota owners manual. I’m sure it will resurface now.
Agreed…. it’s a non-issue.

It's a vestage of the 50s and early 60s when it sometimes did matter.

Ralph, I miss the point for your thoughts. Was is the "goo" your refer to? What is "but not that" referring to?
It's goo in cold starts. Cranking speed is 60-70% slower than almost any other oil. The valve train is likely smoking underneath the valve cover by the time oil gets up there.

Consider it resurfaced…. It was in my owners manual.
I’ll restate I am NOT in agreement with it.

Interesting thought process even though this was printed in June, 2002
And printed in the USA 🇺🇸

Your in Virginia! You don't even get cold weather! Block heater and 20 or 30 below not a problem.

If you're trying to "stretch" the capabilities of an oil you don't want to mix it with another brand or even a different formulation from the same company. As it will revert to the lowest common denominator

If it's 15W at 25-30°, I would hardly consider that "goo." As far as 60-70% slower cranking speed, I've never noticed more than a small decrease in cranking speed when cold, and a lot of that would rightly be attributed to loss of cranking capacity in the cold soaked battery. As for the valve train smoking until it get oil, that's just an absurd statement.
As I stated, I've run RotellaT 15-40W in my JD430 with a Yanmar 3TNA72UJ since I bought it in '93, and it's doing just fine, so I think I;ll continue to take my chances with the "goo."

I just changed my BX1870’s oil at 85 hours as the tractor is a recent purchase. Prior oil change was in 2018 at 35 hours by the PO. I did Delo full synth 15W40. As a test I put a sample in my 0º freezer and in a few hours pulled it out to find it thicker but not by much. Sort of like 30W straight oil at 70º. I plan to see if it is a problem this winter but the manual says it is OK. Does that qualify as GOO?

Yeah, kinda out on a limb there. Years ago wife and I went to MN for thanksgiving and I had not had time to change the 15-40 M1 I had in the crankcase of my truck (old Ford F150 with 300 cu in straight 6). Temps here were in the 50s/60s and we got there and temps dropped well below 0. It cranked up just fine. My guess is today's 15-40 full synth will flow much easier than yesterdays non synth 10-30.
