Wife got her monthly infusion of Chewy today via Fed-Ex.

5 large heavy boxes of cat and dog food and treats.. She has become a Chewy fanatic. Says their prices are even better than Walmart on dog and cat food. She still gets her horse supplements and dry dog food at TSC (For Health) for the pup and whatever for her nags, but everything else comes fom Chewy via Fed-Ex. Orders it one day, delivers the next (and then I get to lug it in the house.

Boxes weigh at least 50 pounds each. 5 total, every month.

Amazing service.

Lets see, 2 ;arge pups and about 40 cats of which there are 10 in the house and a few horses (My wife said Chewy is going to start into horse feed, that will be gramd...lol

She averages about 350 bucks a month with Chewy.

Obviously they are popular, the Fed -Ex guy had me look in the truck... Mostly Chewy boxes.

Our pups and cats get fed better than I do.....:D

Not really, all been turned into sport models. Not mine, my wife's cats and horses, I only claim the dogs and those are sport models as well.

Do have a nice 'in' with our vet. I run all his hayground for him so we get the 'family' rate on vet services and a lot of times there is no charge.

My last pup was diabetic and lived well past what anyone thought she would. Her insulin was over 300 a month plus all the other associated meds and no, could not claim her on hospitalization.

I only kill game animals for the freezer and I've never eaten cat and don't plan on it.

I'm very thankful for their company, even the cats and we have the philosophy that domestic animals need to be cared for.

By the way, every animal (with the exception of the horses and cattle), here on the farm are cast off's and strays. Both my dogs were abondoned on the road in front of our place. Both are great pups and both are very dedicated to us and I would not want to be a stranger with bad intent. You wouldn't last very long. One is a Chow / Lab mix, 120 pounds of jet black well muscled mutt, the other is a coon hound with a big mouth and pretty white teeth.

Both are totally housebroken and sleep in the bedroom with my wife and I (on the floor). every night.

...and they get along with the cats just fine. In fact, the cats sleep on them regularly.

Our Vet made the comment once that we never have to worry about anyone breaking in. I agree with that. When we aren't home, they are.

Just a FYI, PetSmart will price match Chewy on all items, they have a relationship . I found this out the other day during my dogs obediance class at Petsmart. The trainer was demo a different harness than all of us were using on our poochs & my dog responded sooo much better with it I went ahead & bought one. It's simple but the leash hooks on under the dogs throat . Not on their back.

I am in the same boat. I use the same line as I am pushing 1000lbs of feed out of Tractor Supply and inevitably someone comments on the load I'm pushing.
And we do the same as you when we "adopt" a stray. Right to the Vet for a fixing.
It will be interesting to compare cost with Tractor Supply and Chewy on livestock feed.
My FedEx driver would surely not be happy. :p

Do you have a locally owned Mom & Pop pet supply store near by? If so, it won't be there very long unless you and others support it. Chewy's is inexpensive now, but once all the independent stores are gone, they are going to have price increases. They can't keep loosing money forever, hoping that it will turn around based on their present business model.

Chewy Announces Third Quarter 2019 Financial Results

***8226; Net sales of $1.23 billion grew 40 percent year-over-year
***8226; Gross margin of 23.7 percent expanded 410 basis points year-over-year
***8226; Net loss of $79.0 million, including a non-cash share-based compensation charge of $39.3 million
***8226; Adjusted EBITDA(1) loss of $30.2 million improved 56 percent year-over-year
***8226; Adjusted EBITDA margin(1) of (2.5) percent improved 530 basis points year-over-year

Not really. The closest 'pet supply' retail establishment for us is 30 miles from here. Keep in mind we live in very rural America. Nearest 'town' is 10 miles, population 2500. A bar. post office, gas station (closes at 8PM) and a cjurch.

Wife used to get her pet food at Wal-Mart (also 30 miles one way) so Chewy is convenient and less expensive than even Wal-Mart. We aew all about dealing locally, if possible. In this case, it's not a practical alternative.

Besides, at our ages, we don't like lugging the stuff any farther than we have to.

So, no and no.

For us, cattle feed comes out of the grain tanks, we have 2, 1000 bushel GSI's. Where my bio-mass corn comes from as well. Cattle and wife's nags get fed round bales that I make and sell of course and we too are guilty of pushing 1000 pound loads of sweet feed, supplements and stuff out of TSC as well.

Wife is watching closely to see if Chewy gets into horse feed. Will be interesting and like you say, a horror for the Fed-Ex driver....lol

Must be quite a markup on dog and cat food for Chewy to be able to retail it for less and deliver it too and still turn a profit.

funny to see you post this here....

same at my house... 2 heavy boxes showed up yesterday.

Chewy IS way cheaper on cat food & dog food.

this depends on what you buy & if you watch:::: because they do fluctuate the prices.

my english bulldog only gets that special shaped/made bulldogchow & its about $15 per bag cheaper than if you buy it at any local store.

now as to the cats? ugh. wife has 5 full time inside cats & 1 part timer when the daughter comes home from college on weekends.

yep thats about $250 worth of cat food a month. & $59 on the dog food.

which is STILL cheaper than "another baby" that she wanted to have.

Too old for babies here (glad of that). Grandkids instead. Guess our pets are the kids now. Had to get up at 5AM to let the mutts out of the bedroom, both had to go out and we we, than both just had to have a dog treat. They sleep on my wife's side of the bed unless they have to go out and we we, then it's my side and a cold nose in the face.

Very well housebroken. Neither have ever 'messed' in the house and they know exactly how to get out to we we.

Chewy is exceptionally low priced on treats. Menards is lower on Milk Bone treats when they are on sale. Usually get the big box. Both like big Milkbone treats, big dog size but then both are big dogs.

Great company for us. Cats, not so much...lol

I maintain cats only do 3 things, puke, pee (and poop) and sleep. No companionship there.

DOG spelled backward is GOD. Cat spelled backward is ?

I've looked at Chewy a couple times for our dog's food (Nutro). They've been about same price as I can get it locally.

That said, TSC no longer carries the Nutro here, so it is a little more of hassle to get it.

I only had one dog over the years, WAY back when I was married. The wife got it from a friend who was moving and couldn't take the dog along. It was a total PIA, but that's because the friend never trained it or disciplined it. Thank goodness (for me) he got out one day and we never saw him again. And no, I didn't let him out on purpose.

I have had three cats, including one I had when the wife was still here. All were great companions. All were lap cats and always slept on the bed with me. All lived to be at least 14, and Nikki a big black 17lb male, lived a little over 16 years, until he got cancer and had to be put down. All were good mousers and being indoor/outdoor cats, took care of any gophers and rabbits that dared trespass on the property. Jasmine, the last cat I had, was 13 when she went blind, but made it another year and a half until she had a really bad stroke. Even after she went blind she liked to go out the front door and would walk around the house to the patio door on the deck. She only got lost in the yard once, and after I called to her a couple of times, she made it back.
Besides, if I have to leave to a couple of days, I just leave plenty of food and water out for the cat and their fine.

Yeah, cats puke every now and then, not sure why, but not a big deal.

We also use Chewy for dog and cat food. The Autoship gives discounts on some stuff. Get an email a few days before the shipment and tweet what we need for that month.

The FedEx drivers do comment on Chewy days when they have trucked loaded with 50-70 pound boxes on pet food.

Yesterday the FedEx guy almost made it up our hill with the Chewy order. (I get a running start from across the street).

I get where you're going with this...
But it simply does not make any since for me to visit the local pet shop and pay 20% more for the same products that I can get it at the Farm and Fleet chain (North 40).
They do employ locals, and they are a semi local owned company (Montana) so I don't feel too bad.

The local Kubota dealer is the same way, #1 they are not very local, 140 miles roundtrip, and I can get messick's or Colemans to deliver right to my door for less.

Most local contractors (building / construction / services) don't have a clue what they are doing, they charge way too much and do half A$$ work at best.

My point is sometimes local is just not logical. ;)

Should have had more 'Chewy' on the truck for additional weight//

They didn't include one item in my wife's order yesterday. Came today in a small box. No charge of course.

Told my wife she needs to contact Chewy and see if they can do a carton return. We have a pile of them in the garage....

Rusty -

As the other guys said; really a much bigger topic than just Chewy.com, and I get that. I actually buy from Amazon regularly, and I'm not the kind of guy to buy goods on the internet. ;)

Believe me, I REALLY try to support local/shop small. I have many friends that are sole proprietors providing hardware, feed, vehicle service, Mahindra tractors, Stihl products, Ferris mowers, house paint, flooring, appliances, etc.

Of course, all those guys and gals are now in direct competition with Midas, WalMart, Lowes, TSC, etc. since they've moved into our region.

Again, get your motivation and I agree completely.

Unfortunately, in a place like ours, "local" is non-existent in some circumstances.:(

My wife orders some dog and cat stuff from Chewy too.

Flip, Chewy does have horse feed. Use the shop by pet dropdown at top left their website, select horse, then feed and treats.
