I have a 4 cylinder diesel that the fuel return line needed replaced. There are 4 washer like parts that go in between the return line and the top of the injector. These 4 parts have 2 port holes each in them. Does anyone know the proper assembly? EX. 3 and 9 or 12 and 6. Thanks Matt

Matt - if possible, let us know the model tractor, equipment, or engine you're working on.

It will probably help getting you guidance.

If it is a tractor or other machine, there are parts diagrams here. Agree to terms, and type in your model #.

Parts diagrams usually are your best tool for seeing the sequence of how some part of the tractor goes back together.

Little confused as to what your asking?
The aluminum sealing washers on the top of the injectors should not come off when you change anything.
They also don't matter which clock position they are in to work.
Injector, aluminum washer with 2 holes, return fitting grove down, plain washer (if eqquiped), and then nut.

I think he may be describing the inlet outlet fittings on the injector and how to locate them???

You explanation is confusing. But if you're referring to the small fuel lines at the top of the injectors...you should just remove the deteriorated hose from the hose barbs and replace with new hose, just like you removed.

The injector closest to the firewall usually has only one barb, and it faces towards the next injector. The other injectors will have two barbs. Just connect the hoses from one injector to the next. The other side of the two on the front return to the fuel tank.....thus the name "fuel return line".

Russell, I think you're good at reading between the lines!!

WOW.. You guys must be GREAT at murder mysteries.!!?? I had to read YOUR explinations to even get a glimmer of a clue.. Lol
Yes it would seem as tho he removed the nuts off the injectors & wants to know HOW the washer & return fittings go..
NI Wolfman has it correct.. AND they have to be torqued.. Nothing worse than putting it all back together & starting it up only to find the washers leaking..
Did u know the "picture" in some of the workshop manuals is WRONG??
It SHOWS the washer going ON TOP of the fitting & then the nut..
I had a fella on another forum asking about his "leaking" return.. & posted a pic from his WSM.. after he had gone thru about 3 sets of washers..

Ok, I just started following this thread and pretty new to working on diesel, so, my question is: the washers that go in between the overflow tube and the injector MUST have the two holes? Can’t use regular copper or aluminum washers?
