Twice now I've tried to lube the Inner Tube Bearings on the PTO shaft of my FDR1672, but I can't seem to get those plastic grease fittings to accept grease. It all ends up outside the shield.
Can I take an ice pick and open up the holes a bit? Any other ideas?

Steve - can you post a picture of the fitting?

Many of us have a grease gun coupler from Lock-n-Lube and really like them.

Don't know if it will help, since I don't know the zerk you're contending with.

Can you unscrew the grease fitting? I had a problem with a zerk once. I had to unscrew it and make sure it wasn't clogged by just putting the zerk on the grease gun and pumping it. If the zerk alone won't accept the grease, try cleaning it with a pin or something that will fit nicely or just buy a new zerk and screw it back on if its removable. Your manual doesn't have a very good picture of the fitting so I can't tell. If it comes through clean you may have to see where the grease is going to, take it apart and clean it up if possible. You could have got crud in there or something bound up? I can't be much more help than that. Personally I wouldnt stick an ice pick in it. yet.

Are you talking about the plastic fitting on the plastic shield?

It's the plastic 'zerk' that's on the u joint shield on the PTO. Owners manual says to shoot it with a grease gun every service.
Thanks,

You can probably open it like you state. I would look at the other end first and see how the grease is flowing there and see if you can fix it first.

You may need to just hold the grease gun tube on the fitting while pumping it.

You can also just. take it apart and put grease on the bearing ever so often. The bearings at PTFE (Teflon) aren't they. Why do you have to replace them?

I guess 'nipple' would be a better word than zerk for this.
Not having to replace the bearing, just trying to luge it IAW the owners manual.

This weekend I greased my pto with my lock-n-lube, I could NOT get the L-N-L to get on the zerk - I had to take the PTO off so the pto joint could bend and allow the L-N-L to engage.

I do believe that if the zerk could be turned about another 10-15 degrees it would be possible, but I was a little nervous to torque on the zerk!

Inner Tube bearing lube zerks...sounds like muffler bearing or turn signal fluid. I seriously thought the thread was a joke.

I just read that again, and your right! It does sound "a yard of flight line" or " a gallon of prop wash"!

...and yes...using an ice pick to open the holes did the trick. These nipples lube the inner bearing which are only plastic races that allow the plastic collar that keeps you out of the PTO to spin freely.
Owner manual says lube every 10 hours, sticker on the pto shaft cover says lube every 8 hours.
