Bx24 mid mower problems Hooking up

Guys I just bought a used bx24 with loader backhoe and 60" mowing deck. However I was trying to hook up the deck today and had some questions on the mid pto shaft. Is there a quick connect coupler that should attach the spline from the deck to the pto shaft? Mine only has a male and female spline but I can not get them to slide into each other. I looked at a YouTube video and it shows a quick coupler type setup that was easy to install. After fooling with it for several hours unsuccessfully I wondering if mine should have that. Mine just has a male spline from the mower and about a 5" long female shaft that hangs
Down from the pto. If I am missing any parts does anybody have any idea what parts or numbers I might need.

Thanks in advance for any help. I really love this machine and look forward to learning more about it.

Sounds like half of your shaft is attached to the gearbox on the deck, and the other is attached to the tractor, correct? They slide into each other, but it's keyed, they only slide together when turned the right way, so they don't do damage to the u joints. Line the u joints up and they should slide together, if they still don't, turn the shaft 180 degrees and try again

Yes, half of my shaft is on the gearbox of the mower and the other is on the tractor. Is this normal or should there be some kind of quick connect that makes hooking it up easier.

I noticed there is a spline that is doubled and then a bigger slot on the other shaft so I know it would have to go in that way. But it is just like it won't fit. I guess there could be a small dent or something that I am not seeing that is keeping it from sliding on.

My main question was to see if any other Btx24 owners knew I there should be a quick connect or something on it. Then if not I will research further on how to fix it.

Look carefully at the connection AT the PTO off the tractor - THERE is a large round collar - I am guessing 2.5" in diameter - slide it back and the shaft will (should) come off in your hand, it is hard to climb under the tractor and do that if it has not been done frequently. Pulling the collar back can be a PITA. Try to get yourself in a position that you can get a good pull on it.

AS for the splines - shadow hit the nail on the head - IT will only go one way.
Once you get the shaft from under the tractor - clean and inspect it carefully and then apply a thin coat of grease - look at the other half shaft and make sure there is nothing in the inside it. Clean the shaft and look for a burr - but it will go back together and MUST slide freely once there!:D:)

I will try to get that collar off the pto from the tractor this evening. Maybe getting it off will help me see something on how to fix it. That must be the collar that I have seen them snap in place.

Mine right now has half the shaft connected to the mower and the other half connected to the tractor. I thought it was a bad setup because the shaft part connected to the tractor just kind of dangles down. If I can get it removed then I can put it all together and then just collar snap the end back onto the tractor.

That makes much more sense.

Do not leave that half shaft to the tractor. Have had guys turn the PTO on and it hits the oil filter and usually takes off the nipple that the filter threads on to. Then you're pulling the transmission and replacing the front cover
