has anyone installed a block heater (frost plug or otherwise) on a 6100? i would love pictures or description of how you did it.....

You really don't need to do that, the hose line model has a thermostat built into it.I got one of those 1 1/4 block heaters for the lower rad hose - easy to install.
But it's rated at 375 watts, which I thought was way too much for that SMALL 12 HP engine.
So. I made up a electric cable that had a diode in line with one of the wires. That way I've cut down on the power - now runs about 100 watts which is plenty to heat up the engine.

That one is a super easy install, drain the radiator from valve on bottom, remove a freeze plug on the left side of the motor, drive in the threaded adapter, install the heater, refill radiator, done.
Here is how you get the freeze plug out.
