I recently started blowing a fuse every time I pulled PTO Switch. Traced wires the best I could and could not find any bare wires shorting against frame. Pulled clutch off and ran mower, opened PTO Switch, measured 13+ V at plug to clutch and never blew the fuse. Inspecting the clutch it looks like bearings have failed causing the increased load to blow the fuse.

- Mower has ~950 hours
- Can Bearings be replaced or should I just go for new clutch due to engine hours?

Also it is hard to read one of the bearings can anyone confirm my interpretation of the numbers?
- 6607 DK
- 6200 DK (this is the one i need confirmation for)

TIA,
LT

If it was mine I’d order a new one. Then when I was bored, pull it apart to see if it’s salvageable to have as a spare (because the grass is growing). Excess heat from the bad bearings likely damaged (shorted) windings in the magnet, causing addl resistance, blowing the fuse.. If ok, bearings can be ordered by size through BDI or McMaster-Carr once you have them in your hand. Order a new one and you’ll have the bearing numbers for future use.

Then there’s this…$43.11 re-box fee + shipping

yeah you can take them apart, well kinda. Just went through this on mine...

two bearings are pressed into the housing, then the housing is staked. You can press them out by forcing the stakes out, but then it basically ruins the housings as most of the time the staked areas break off, leaving nothing to hold the bearing in place.

Secondly "normally" the bearings fail about the same rate as the brake/friction surfaces wear. IOW, it kinda all wears out at the same rate. So you'd have to replace the friction surfaces, magnet, bearings all at once. At that point you ain't far off of an entire new clutch assembly, which is updated. There were a few changes made to the clutch which improves it-at least that's what the kubota rep told us.

PAU7220 & Lugbot. Thanks for the feedback and links to alternative sources. You both confirmed my thoughts that I should be going new from 2 different perspectives.

Appreciate the help,
