That makes perfect sense, Sammy3700. I used a 4' cheater pipe on my vice and, used a punch & hammer in the spanner slots instead of the pipe wrench, figuring the wrench was probably 'squeezing' the outer nut. tight enough that the piston won't move in or out. Still nada. Guess I'm gonna have to get the whole cylinder:eek:

Thanks for the input from everyone. Guess I'll order the cylinder unless anyone else has ideas.

Maybe you have a hydraulic shop nearby. They deal with every type of cylinder. At least get a bid for repair before replacement. They might even tell you what's needed to remove the end cap, so you'll know for the next one.

Thanks D2Cat. Yeah they can repair - $150, which is less than getting a new one including shipping. Should have back by Friday. And yes Sammy3700, he said that inner nut is turning. Said he would have to "flex" the piston to freeze it and unscrew the rod retainer nut.

Filldirt, you're welcome. My philosophy is, if man made it man can fix it...and probably improve it the second time around!
