Which Kubota diesel engine is better: 3 Cylinder D1703-M-DI-E4B or 05 Series 4 cylinder V1505 E4B-V

The spec's for both of these engines are quite similar. I'm wondering if there is a prevailing opinion on which one might be better than the other in an excavator? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

The question you really want to be asking is what will let you move the most dirt at the lowest operating cost

Thanks, that's another way of looking at it for sure. If the cost of each is similar and one performs better then it would likely move the most dirt at the lowest operating cost. Just need to figure out which one that is.

More power / more torque.

The D1703-M-DI-EB4 is a fantastic engine that powers the Kubota L2501 Tractor. It offers really good torque and exceptional fuel economy. However, I'm not familiar with the V1505 so sadly, I have no idea which engine would be better for your application.

Mike, thanks for your input. On paper its seems a bit better than the 4 cylinder V1505

What motor was in it originaly?

I believe one of the Kubota models is available with both engines. Presumably one has more HP than the other, otherwise they wouldn't be offering two options.
