What is this?

Opened up the hood on the BX23 and found this laying on top of the engine, more toward the front of the tractor. After spending some time with a flashlight trying to figure out where it came from, I still don't have a clue.
Suggestions anyone?
I sure hope it wasn't a spoof by one of the neighbours

That top edge does look suspiciously chewed.
Squirrels just literally totaled my neighbor's car by chewing into the wiring harness. Well, actually not totaled, but the repair was more than the car's value.
