I got this in a trade the other day and I have no idea what it was used for. Has anyone ever seen this attachment before?

It's an aerator for your yard. Got a smaller version for my riding mower;) if it has curved blades it's also a dethatcher

I think some sort of safety guard would be a good idea, those tines look very non-user friendly:eek:

That is what the guy told me when I got it, but it seems old and I wasn't sure they would make something like this to aerate way back then. I looks pretty old. He said it was 15 ft wide but he cut it down to 3- 5ft sections.

Someone just told me it was a rotary hoe. I found a video of one on youtube.

I'd say it's a slicer aerator. It looks like you can add weight to the top for better penetration.

Gramp had one bout 12 foot wide. Used to call it a gopher grinder. Used to tow it around the hay field in the spring to loosen up the ground some before he fertilized

I like the "Gopher Grinder"...
I like the gopher grinder too!

Seems like it needs some more weight to be real effective, I have made airaters in the past , some 5 feet wide, and 80 plus spikes, rolls great yet too heavy to pick up! And I had a plug in the side to add water. ON soft ground worked like a charm! On hard soil - forget it - it would run on the top surface.

It's a rotary hoe. Used to bust up dirt clods after plowing a field. They work excellent for braking up manure piles after cattle have grazed a field. No additional weight required. Put three gangs together and do a field in a hurry.
