My buddy says he now weighs 14 stones.

I can decode that one, the correct way it would be said is that he weighs 14 stone. It’s a British thing, a stone is 14 lbs.

so if someone says I weight 10 stone 6 it means that they weigh 146 lbs.

Only stones I'm familiar with are Kidney stones. Do they count?
