I dont think my B6000 charges. I have 11v`s at my battery when the tractor is running and does not go up at all, even when I give it gas, there are 3 leads off the dynamo. 2 go to the light switch and one to the rectifier, what does the rectifer do exactly? what should I be testing.
Thanks.

A rectifier changes AC into DC power.

Alternators put out AC power that needs to be converted into DC for the electrical system to work properly.

A rectifier changes AC into DC power.
Sort of. A single rectifier passes only one half of a sine wave. After the rectifier, you add a good-sized capacitor which charges up to a certain DC level, depending on the rectifier configuration. The cap is what changes it to DC, in theory.

think of a good ol fashion sine wave, like a heart beat but a little different:),

I rectifier takes the bottom half of the sine wave and flips it up if you will, making all the humps up! The capacitor makes the humps a little flatter.

In the old days you had a generator on a tractor......produced dc back to the battery.......Ac alternator does a much better job - but you have to correct the AC to DC, thus the rectifier and capacitor.

you should have close to 14 volts when running......a normal battery (fully charged) should have 12.6 v ( at rest)......

can you check it BEFORE the rectifier ? switch to AC on the meter.......

yeah, I did download the manual for my tractor, shows nothing on how to test a dynamo or a rectifier, its a horrible service manual.

Some very early year B7100's had the 3 wire dynamo setup. The 2 wires that go to the light switch change from a lower charge to a higher charge. You describe the 2 wires going to the light switch. Does another wire come from the light switch back to the rectifier? If it is like the B7100 you can think of the light switch as two separate switches with a common handle. One side turns on the lights and the other ups the charge with the lights on. If you are missing the wire to return back to the rectifier you will not get any charge.

A rectifier is a diode. It acts like an electrical check valve.
It lets the current flow in one direction only. The schematic indicates that you have a bridge rectifier circuit.
To test disconnect from the circuit and use an ohm meter to test.
There are four diodes in the unit. There is one between each contact. There should be continuity one way and open the other. Test from each set.
