I used the L3901DT and grapple to move logs to my bucketing and splitting area. This is the second day this week that I have worked on firewood.

I also moved some dirt to try to level out the "floor" of our lean-to where the tractor, log splitter and walk-behind tiller live.

Couple days ago I used the L3901DT and grapple to move leaves. Blow them in a big pile and pick them up with the grapple and drop them in the woods. This is one thing I don't like about living in the woods.

My L4060 has no back up light circuit.

Wonder if I could do something similar using the treadle switch on my LX2610? It senses the treadle is pushed in either direction, but dunno if it's two switches or one. It's all mine now (last payment two days ago) so I reckon I can screw it up as bad as I want to. Nah, I'm pretty careful to keep my expensive toys as close as possible to factory and limit mods to things that don't require cutting into wiring or drilling holes in places I really don't want holes.

Yup, leafing ain't fun. I use my little Husqvarna YTH22V46 to mulch and bag 'em, dump the bags on a tarp in a little trailer I built 20 years ago, and then haul that to the back with the LX. Makes for a few less trips and I don't tear up what little lawn I have with the LX. The tarp lets me empty it quick as long as the leaves aren't damp. Then they're too heavy to pull off with the tarp and I have to raise the tongue as high as possible to get gravity to help me out a little. I had 17 trees removed last year, so the leaf cleanup has been a bit easier this year. Still get some red oak and elm from a couple trees I left, but nothing like the massive loads of water oak (never mind the millions of marble sized acorns). Up until last year, I was hauling at least 8 loads of leaves 5 or 6 times a year to some old erosion ditches in the back part of my lot. Been dumping leaves in that hole for 20 years, and it still ain't nowhere near full.

Might go out today and stockpile some topsoil out of a rather large compost heap I started 5 years ago when I got the LX. I pushed tons of leaves and underbrush into a big pile when I cleared out the back part of my lot and have let it rot down. I need to see if I can find some kind of mulcher that can chew up the rest so I can use it in the mosh pits in the chicken yards. I call them mosh pits because that's where the girls party down and scratch around for worms and bugs. They love it when I put fresh mulch in the pits.

It was a miserable, wet day. Took out the rear finish mower out to my parents barn for the winter and moved a few skids of salt. Got home and put the blower on installed the drift cutters.

Put the flail mower on and crossed the boundary between me and the neighbor. I need some pine brush to feed my chipper for stuff to go in the mosh pits in my coops, and he just so happens to have at least 20 short leaf pines down over the past few years. Might take a few logs too because they’re nice straight trees. I cut a work area around one top close to the line and then got the saw out to cut it into manageable pieces to feed to the WC-68. I still haven’t cut the drive shaft that came with the flail, but the shaft for the WC-68 works well. It’s just right without the quick hitch, if not a wee bit short. I get full range on the lift without pushing the PTO shaft through the transmission, so close enough. The flail will never be QH compatible, so no point in worrying about the shaft without the QH. No photos, unfortunately. Will get some tomorrow. Pretty easy to see what I did. The grass and brush was waist deep when I started. It’s shoe top deep now. This was just my second experience with the flail with hammers on it. I’m sold. I have a set of Y blades that came with it, but they may never get used.

Gonna build up a stockpile of pine chips for the girls’ to scratch around in after I clean out the pits. The short leaf pine has a lot of resin, so hopefully it’ll last longer and smell better than the hardwood stuff I put in when I built the coop. 3 medium sized brush piles from one top so far. He’s given me carte blanche to collect what I need because he gets free cleanup while I’m getting free coop bedding. If ya want good neighbors, gotta be a good neighbor.

Moved and built a wind barrier using firewood cages to protect the hives from the winter storms on the hill. Challenging because of the mud but took my time and maneuvered slowly. Will try to add more in morning. Nice to have the heated cab. Wish I had one on the mini-ex.
