Hi all,

I built a weed sprayer for my banana plantation, this is for spraying in between the rows -there is approx. 2 meter (7 feet) space between the plant rows and in rainy season the weeds grow fast!

The tank is a 100 liter tank I found at a shop, the other day I also found 150 and 200 liter tanks -the 150 liter tank would have been a better choice I reckon as the pump seems to be a bit big.
The frame is pretty simple but I had to extend the top 3p mount to clear the pump.

The pump is a standard type pump in this region -used with a Honda engine for spraying fruit trees. The pump should be mounted laying down, but there is not enough room between the 3p lift arms so I had to get creative with the oil level (normally they are half filled but I completely filled it and then stood the pump up -the clear hose is to be used as a "breather" for the oil).

The pump mount is a 2" square tube that fits inside my rear hitch and held in place with a simple pin. I can adjust the pump up/down, left/right and fwd/back by slots in the brackets holding it on.

The PTO "socket" I got cut by water jet in 25mm thick teflon -I figured that if something were to seize up or go wrong then the teflon will be the part that breaks rather than something inside the PTO drive. Also the teflon is easy on the PTO splines so any misalignment will not abuse the PTO shaft.

Front ramp is adjustable both in width -minimum width 1 meter, maximum width 1.7 meter- and up/down -minimum 40cm and maximum 75cm off the ground- this as some rows are narrower than others and also if it is a bit windy I can lower the ramp and spray closer to the ground.

The reason for the ramp being at the front rather than the back, is that I can see where I am spraying so that I do not kill banana plants. I had originally thought of having the ramp under the tractor but that would put it way too too low.

I still have to play a bit with the pump pressure/volume and the tractor speed to get the right amount of weed killer per area.

Cheers,
Hasse

Nice work. That teflon coupling is a good idea. What keeps the pump from rotating when PTO is turning? Are the angles hanging down at the spray boom so you can move the boom to a desired elevation?

I think I've seen that size barrel at nearby auctions. They said Sake was shipped in them!

Thanks Coachgeo, I follow the golden rule of welding; only take photos of the good welds... ;)

D2Cat; The pump is mounted on a 2" square tube that is stuck inside my rear tow hitch socket. I made the tow hitch socket to accept the standard 2" square tubing so that I can attach various types of hitches and also a winch if needed.

This tank was brand new, still had plastic trimmings inside it -no sake :(

The spray boom is welded to the angles that are bolted to the front of the tractor frame -with a hole every 45mm so I can adjust it.
If I need to go even lower to the ground I can flip the frame upside down -the nozzles are all on separate brackets so they can be removed/put back any which way.

All in I have about 120 Bucks in this set-up, $30 of that are the nozzles, valves and fittings.

Sorry for the shoddy photos, the camera is on its last legs and it is dark..

Cheers,
H
