Got a portable electric grease gun for christmas. Would it strain the electric gun if the grease has been in freezing temps? This is my 1st one. Figured probably easier flowing into the zirk with warm grease.

I was greasing manually a few weeks ago and the grease was cold, upper 30s if I had to guess. it was MUCH more difficult to operate the handle than usual.

Warm is better, but it may not matter. Even with the grease gun and grease warm if you are trying to grease a cold machine the cold grease in the machine will make greasing more difficult.

Just don’t know how well these electric pumps would hold out pushing cold grease. Will bring the grease in to warm up before use.

Get a trash bag and put the gun/tube in it and bring it in the house the night before…problem solved.

+1 on this.

I also store my “spare tubes” of grease, and my “tire plug” kit in the house!

Good luck (y)

I use Lucas X-Tra Heavy Duty grease, a polyurea based grease, and it doesn't thicken as much in very cold situations. I can al;ways hand gun it all winter without any pre-warming.

I don't do a lot of greasing in the winter but when I do the piece of equipment I am greasing and my cordless gun has been in the warm shop over night. If just makes greasing it a little easier. I like the cordless ones so well I have four now.

My Milwaukee grease gun, batteries, and tubes of grease live in the bins of a work truck that live outside in the freezing cold.

I bring the batteries inside to charge, because lithium batteries won’t take when they are cold, but the rest live in the freezing cold.

Equipment takes the grease just fine.

Bingo.

Cold grease will not hurt it.
