It's no wonder the US Postal Service is on the edge of Bankruptcy.

My wife's Chevy has a bad tire pressure sensor so I ordered one from Rock Auto. It was shipped USPS on 1/20/26. It originated in Maryland, went to Kansas, Pennsylvania, NY, NY, NY, NY, NY, and finally to me today 1/30/26. A total of 2,580 miles and took 11 days to get here. Good thing I didn't need it right away.

If they shipped it correctly the total miles would have been about 385 and maybe a week.

Did you ever track UPS next day air? From Sioux City to Kentucky then Mankato. Becomes 2-3 day air in storms. Standard ground would have been quicker. USPS priority mail goes cross country in 3 days they must have used the lowest cost option.

Ordered something from Beaumont, Ca, to ship with USPS to Peoria, AZ, 292 miles.
Tracking said 2 days.
Tracking showed the part was shipped to Seattle, then Billings, then Minneapolis, then Atlanta, then Houston, then Phoenix, and finally Peoria.
Took 13 days
Man, that's efficiency. 🤪

You should feel very fortunate. I've ordered things off the net and informed delivery will send a message 'Delivered to porch, door, mailbox" whatever and it's not there!! One time I got that message, went to get it, and nothing. Got on computer and checked tracking #. It had been delivered to a home in Tennessee, and I'm in Wisconsin.
Vendor made it right and resent order but jeez.
Accuracy is not a condition of employment for the USPS

N.Y,
We had a USPS mystery 2 years ago. My wife bought something on walmart.com and it showed as shipped to our address and delivered a couple days later according to an email. We didn't get it so called the local post office, they ran the tracking and it showed as a .2 ounce package instead of the 20 pound package that was redirected for delivery to a different address by us. Turned out there are many scam vendors on Walmart. Com that take orders and never ship them. They ship a empty envelope and redirect it to someone else for delivery so tracking shows up as delivered and whoever gets it just tosses the empty envelope. That triggers payment from Walmart and they disappear. Walmart gave us our money back without any hassle. Post office couldn't do anything because shipping account was offshore but had seen it happen often. Soo many scams out there and not always the post offices fault.

In the "good old days" the local USPS office had two drop off mailboxes. One for local mail and the other for all other mail. USPS staff would process the local mail. For those with PO boxes straight from local processing into the box. For the rest of us rural people into the proper bin for the rural deliver person.

Today. Heads down south to some processing center, then to a distribution center, then back to our local USPS office. Assuming it doesn't end up heading to another processing or distribution center. Takes usually 3-4 days for local posted mail to end up in your PO Box or mailbox. DeJOYLess effect.

Usually regional mail gets to you in a timely manner. Purchase some products from an Etsy seller about 100 miles south of home. Usually straight to the processing/distribution centers then to my local USPS. Couple time it takes the long way. Once to Milwaukee, then to St.Paul, then to Denver, back to St. Paul, to Duluth, to local USPS. Not only USPS occasionally likes to bounce the packages around. Items were alpaca gloves and socks. Not something requiring special processing.

I just bought something that was shipped by DHL. It has to be the worst of them all.

I ship loads of stuff with USPS and service is typically good. In my region Baltimore is an occasional black hole.

On 1/22 it was 24 miles from me.

I ordered tire sensors from north west corner of Alabama last year. ook seven days to get them and they ended up 100 miles west of me. I contacted the distribution center for my area and the gal said she would check for me. she called me back and described how the package to put into the wrong container and that is how packages get off track!

Better to buy a 4 pack for cheaper because the rest will probably be going out also.

Might want to scan that baby first. I had TPMS failures in cold weather and thought it was a dead/dieing sensor. Turns out its probably the ECU that controls windows, lights, locks, seats, heat/air, and a lot of other things.

Batteries going out is the most common cause, and cold weather doesn't help.

The USPS is not on the edge of bankruptcy. Ever since the Reagan admin the USPS is prohibited from earning a dime more than their actual operational costs. That is why they increase postage only one-cent at a time.

As for the ten days it took to get to you….. if you think about it…those are the days of heavy, ice, snow, and blocked roads and grounded flights…. yet they STILL got it to you in only 10 days.
I”M STILL WAITING ON MY AMAZON “PRIME” which I ordered Jan 14, that shipped Jan 15…and ain;t here YET. Tracking shows it hung up first in GA then in PA.

PS: My bro worked 22 years at the USPS. He once complained that as a Postal Service Union-Member he was prohibited from going on “strike”….and felt that if he COULD go on “strike”…that he’d demand better equipment to handle zip-code sorting instead of having to do it by hand.
I couldn’t help but ask him RR’s question: “If you and your fellow members at the post-office DID go ”on strike”……. HOW WOULD WE KNOW..??? 🤣

If I send a letter to my sister - who lives across town, about three miles away - it'll first go to Youngstown (15 miles); then to Cleveland (60 miles); then to Pittsburgh (90 miles); back to Youngstown (65 miles); back to Austintown (15 miles) then out for delivery. Somewhere between three and five days. Efficient? Yeah...Sure...

For 42-cents ….you CARE HOW IT’S ROUTED..??

You COULD have sent her an email….OR ….if you wanted it delivered more-direct…you could PAY for that delivery-service…. but you only spent 42-cents….and You Got a BARGAIN for that price.

Of course, you also could have driven across town yourself…but that also would have cost considerably more than 42-cents..

When we mail anything, even if it to next door neighbor, it goes to St Paul MN 200 mi away to come back to the origin to be delivered.
Useless
We've gotten into sending E Cards for holidays and special occasions now.
