Due to the fact that I own a larger JD tractor that I utilize Hy-gard hyd oil in it I'm thinking about changing my Kubota M7040 HDC over to utilizing Hy-Gard so when changing to different equipment hyd oils won't be intermingled between tractors/equip. Any thoughts about my idea?
Thanks,Jim

Your concern sounds very legitimate because you are "swapping spit" with every hydraulic cylinder equipped implement. I have the exact same concern with a John Deere and a Kubota sharing implement duties.

Is there that much of a difference between the two to make a difference? I'm asking, because I really don't know. The amount being mixed wouldn't seem to be that great and I don't know there is enough of a difference between the two products to worry about it.

So long as the Kubota isn't a hydrostat, you are fine. If it's a hydro, not fine. Hydrostat drives (Kubota) require a specific additive package or so I'm told. gear drives don't. I run Chevron THC Synthetic in both my gear drive, hydraulic shuttle M's and always have. I like to run a standardized fluid as well and it's cheaper in 55 gallon drums anyway.

Both of mine get Shell Rotella 5-40 synthetic T6 for engine oil and I always use Kubota filters exclusively.

Since 2004, no issues what so ever.

If I'm not mistaken, the Deere fluid is a bit thicker than the Kubota fluid but I'm not 100% sure. I've seen them both and the JD stuff pours a bit thicker.

I would suspect that you would be fine. John Deere runs that fluid in their hydrostatic dozers and tractors. It is a good oil. When I farmed, we used it all our equipment because we had Deere, Ford, Case and Case-IH.
