Got 24 acres in mtns of SW Va, 5 acres in grass. The road in is 1.5 miles and the blue rock gravel does not hold up to heavy rain well, especially on the steepest slopes. My first and current tractor is a B7800 30hp 4x4 HST. Its just not heavy enough to move the rock/hard packed dirt to fill in the washouts. either the bucket is skipping across the surface or the tractor tires are spinning. I feel I need something larger in the 40hp 3000 + lbs range, but kinda baffled with all the models out there. I need it for mowing, road work, and hauling firewood etc.

How do you cut through all the models available? Would like something used, 1000 hrs or so, 4x4, $15k to $20k range. Any suggestions ?

thanks for the help

My L3000 with loader and box scrape weighs over 4k and does well moving dirt and rock. That said since you're wanting something in the 40 hp range a L3800 was the first model that popped in my head. If weight is a big issue the L4600 may be a better choice.

If you really want to get the most out of you loader you might consider either adding teeth or a tooth bar. It makes a huge difference on how it digs even on a smaller tractor.

I'm between Troutdale and Independence Va, off Flat Ridge road in the Mt Rogers area. I can dig down about 1/2 inch before I hit rocks.:p

Thanks for the recommendations. If I don't find what I'm looking for, I may add a tooth bar.

I see a lot of L models and M models as well as the B. I know the B's are the smaller of the group, but how do the L and M models compare.

thanks
Charlie

The best way to understand the differences in models is to do a bit of research on the website then go to a well stocked lot on a Sunday and just wander around looking at the different models. Some models almost overlap and the letters mean little to nothing. The MX is essentially more of an older model Grand L Compact than an M Utility.

Mt Internet research led me in one direction that quickly changed with hands on tractor contact.
